Fusion is a mechanic in Cassette Beasts that players can use to temporarily combine two monsters in battle. While it is possible to complete most combat encounters without performing this action, fusion can be quite helpful in fights against the game's more-difficult foes. Indeed, players that find themselves struggling against a challenging opponent are advised to incorporate Cassette Beast s ' fusion mechanic into their strategies, and this guide is here to explain how that is done.
Cassette Beasts: Fusion Explained
The first step toward performing a fusion is to partner with a companion that has a Relationship Level of at least one. For the uninitiated, Relationship Level is expressed as hearts beneath the companion's name in the party menu, and JRPG fans will earn a partner's first heart upon completion of their introductory quest.
As a brief aside, Eugene's introductory quest, which is titled Acting On Your Best Behavior, is actually quite long. Indeed, players will need to make some fairly significant progress in order to complete the quest, earn Eugene's first heart, and make fusion a possibility when he is serving as partner. Fans of monster collecting video games are thus advised to leave this companion on the bench during the early stages of the game, as losing the ability to fuse is a real disadvantage.
Once a player is partnered with a companion that has a Relationship Level of at least one, the next step is to fill their Fusion Meter. Here are details on ways to perform that action, and the meter can be viewed in the top-right corner of the party menu:
- Take damage.
- Land type-advantaged hits after purchasing the Chemistry Mod from Ranger Wilma in the Town Hall.
- Land critical hits after purchasing the Critical Mod from Ranger Wilma in the Town Hall.
- Win battles after purchasing the Victory Mod from Ranger Wilma in the Town Hall.
- Eat Pear Fusilli (purchased from the Gramophone Cafe for 1,000 Wheat).
After the Fusion Meter is filled, players can perform a fusion in any battle by pressing the Fuse button on the right side of the tape recorder. This will cause the two Cassette Beasts monsters that are on the battlefield to combine into a single monster, and it will have these properties:
- It will have the types of both fused monsters.
- It will have the moves of both fused monsters.
- It will have the combined stats of the fused monsters.
- It will earn four AP per turn.
One final thing to mention is that players can strengthen their fusions by increasing their Relationship Levels with the various companions. This allows fusions to become even more potent as fans work toward beating Cassette Beasts, provided that they put a bit of effort toward earning additional hearts.
