Summary

  • Cast & Spell is free on Steam until May 20, offering multiplayer wizard dueling with elemental spells.
  • Players can choose PvE or PvP modes in Cast & Spell, using a variety of spells based on elemental types.
  • With a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, developer Hosthood Studio's new wizard game shows promise.

Cast & Spell has been added to Steam's list of free-to-keep titles, allowing players to claim the game until May 20. The platform has always been home to generous but limited-time offers, often spotlighting lesser-known games. Recently, for instance, a new indie brawler called Nubs! Arena became free to claim for one day on Steam.

Earlier this month, Steam users also got Furi Demake for free. However, the platform's lineup of free-to-keep titles doesn't end there. Fans who act fast can grab yet another entertaining game at no cost.

Hit FPS With 'Overwhelmingly Positive' Reviews is 90% Off on Steam For a Limited Time

A hit first-person shooter with 'Overwhelmingly Positive' reviews drops to a massive 90% off on Steam for a very limited time.

Cast & Spell will remain free to claim on Steam until May 20. Developed by Hosthood Studio, the game features multiplayer matches where players battle each other using elemental spells. In essence, it's a wizard dueling game where the wand serves as the primary weapon. Cast & Spell entered early access on Steam on April 18, 2025, with the full version expected to include additional content and expanded customization options, though the release date has yet to be announced. Once the free-to-keep offer ends, the game will return to its regular price of $7.99. Luckily for fans, the developer has confirmed $8 will remain the final price, with no increase planned for the full release.

Cast & Spell Is a Wizardry Game with PvP and PvE Modes

There aren't many multiplayer games with both PvE and PvP modes that let gamers take on the role of a wizard. The good news for fans of magic and sorcery is that Cast & Spell allows players to choose between competing against each other or teaming up to take down the game's AI. In PvE mode, players must face off against hordes of monstrous creatures, relying solely on magic and spells to defeat them all. In PvP, they need to use a list of over 35 spells to defeat other sorcerers in the arena.

While not as extensive as some games' magic systems, Cast & Spell's core gameplay mechanics revolve around casting a variety of attack, defense, and healing spells based on six elemental types: fire, frost, stone, lightning, water, and life. As for its critical reception, the game currently holds a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam. However, with fewer than 50 user reviews, it may be too early to draw definitive conclusions. The game's developer, Hosthood Studio, previously released Soak & Splash, a sauna experience simulator. While vastly different in genre, Soak & Splash earned nearly 2,000 positive reviews on Steam, suggesting that the indie studio's new wizard-themed title could have promising potential as well.
