Summary
- CD Projekt RED aims to innovate and add something new with each game to avoid repetition.
- Despite evolving, CD Projekt RED will maintain the core elements of open-world, story-driven, quality RPGs.
Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 4 developer CD Projekt RED has revealed what players can expect to see from the studio's future titles. CD Projekt RED is among the most prolific RPG developers in the industry right now, with two massive franchises under its wing.
Although CD Projekt RED's first two Witcher games were successful in their own right, it wasn't until The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that the studio became a household name for gamers. With The Witcher 3 recently passing the 60 million sales milestone, the game has undoubtedly proved to be a critical and commercial success over the past decade. 2020's Cyberpunk 2077 was criticized heavily for its technical state on launch, but the developer has continued to improve its most recent game massively in numerous updates over the years.
The Biggest Upside to The Witcher 4's Chain Weapon Isn't the Chain Itself
The Witcher 4's reveal trailer hinted at the appearance of some new weapons, including a chain that might be hiding a powerful ability in plain sight.
As pointed out by GamesRadar+, CD Projekt RED's studio head Adam Badowski has claimed in a new episode of the AnsweRED podcast that the team "have to add something" with each game, saying, "We have to add something that changes the consensus. We don't want to copy our own tricks all over again and again. So every game should consist [of] something new." With CD Projekt RED's upcoming games consisting of The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, this will come as great news for fans who want to see the developer take risks in its games.
CD Projekt RED Wants To 'Add Something That Changes the Consensus' With Every Game
Badowski did reiterate that the core of CD Projekt RED's titles will broadly remain the same, noting that there's an expectation among gamers that they will be "open world, story-driven, quality" role-playing games. Even still, "every new game has to bring something new. So this is the general rule for the company." CD Projekt RED prioritizing evolution over revolution is probably a smart move that will help the developer remain at the top for the foreseeable future.
We have to add something that changes the consensus. We don't want to copy our own tricks all over again and again.
As for CD Projekt RED's upcoming games, there have been some interesting developments of late. Cyberpunk 2 recently entered pre-production at the studio, while development of The Witcher 4 remains ongoing. A release date for either title has been given at the moment, and they're not expected to arrive any time soon.
