  • CDPR's ambitious plans for future games generate excitement among fans and industry watchers.

Polish game developer CDPR has shared status updates on the future of its game franchises, including The Witcher and Cyberpunk. Fueling the anticipation among fans, CDPR shared its current work pipeline featuring the next lineup of games in its roadmap.

Back in October 2022, CDPR unveiled its plans to work on multiple Witcher and Cyberpunk projects, alongside a new IP, in tandem. Since then, it has steadily progressed on that path, successfully shipping out a major DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 called Phantom Liberty in the meantime. Continuing its policy of keeping fans in the loop, it has periodically been sharing status updates for each of its planned games.

On its official Twitter account, CDPR shared the most recent status of its future releases, precisely, three Witcher games, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, and a brand-new IP, codenamed Hadar. The next main game in the Witcher series that will start a new trilogy, Project Polaris, is currently in the pre-production stage. The same is true for Project Sirius, another game in the Witcher universe. On the other hand, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, aka Project Orion, and the remake of the original Witcher game are in the concept stage. Moreover, Hadar seems like the one that is in its earliest form right now, being in the "IP concept phase."

In addition to that, CDPR shared that a majority of developers --- 403, to be exact --- are currently assigned to the Witcher sequel which is expected to enter production this year. On the flip side, 47 devs are working on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, whereas 37 of them are tasked with working on Project Sirius. Meanwhile, just 20 developers are occupied with working on the new IP, Hadar. Among these projects, Project Polaris, Project Orion, and Hadar are being handled by CDPR directly, whereas others are being developed by third parties.

What Does This Mean for the Future of Witcher and Cyberpunk?

Based on the latest status of CDPR's roadmap, it looks like the Witcher sequel and the third-party Witcher game are ahead in terms of development compared to other projects. The fact that a large chunk of CDPR's forces is working on the next major Witcher title nearly confirms it will be the next big game from the developer. In the same vein, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which is still having its concept figured out, should be further away down the line despite CDPR ramping up hiring for Project Orion recently. Moving on, Hadar seems to be several years away from the looks of it.

CDPR owns the rights to two of the most popular game franchises in recent years. Naturally, there's a surge of excitement and speculation whenever any detail is shared about their future by the developer. Based on the ambitious plans laid out, it will be interesting to see how CDPR delivers on these promises and if its games meet the fans' lofty expectations.
