Chained Echoes has three different types of in-game currencies: GS, SP, and Arc. All of them have their uses, but some are a little more important than others.

This guide focuses on Grimoire Shards, explaining everything beginner players need to know about gathering, farming, and using them in Chained Echoes.

What Are Grimoire Shards Used for in Chained Echoes?

Also known as GS, Grimoire Shards are a currency in Chained Echoes and are used to unlock new skills. GS is added to each character’s profile and is shown under their names in the “Skills” menu. It looks like a star. Grimoire Shards also represent players’ current level. The higher the collective GS gets, the stronger the squad becomes. In other words, a player with 7 GS is more potent than one with 6.

How to Earn Grimoire Shards in Chained Echoes

Getting GS is a part of the main campaign. Players earn Grimoire Shards by beating bosses and completing Chain Rewards. Each boss fight—except for the last one—grants players one GS, and they can get another one for each Chain Reward on #8, #24, #40, #56, #64, #80, #88, and #104.

Beat the Boss Fights

The most straightforward way to farm GS is by progressing the storyline. Players simply need to kill the giant monster at the end of each chapter to earn aone GS. The final boss in Chained Echoes is an exception to that. It drops two GS instead of one. There’s also an optional super-boss, Krakun, that players could beat for an extra Shard.

Claim Chain Rewards

In order to claim Chain Rewards, players can either press the left trigger (LT, L2, or the L Button) or open the Rewards Board in the pause menu then go to the Chain Rewards section and collect the Grimoire Shards. For every 8, 24, 40, 56, 64, 80, 88, and 104 adjacent tasks that players complete, they earn one GS. However, this prize only appears in their inventory once they manually claim them.

In the pause menu, players can head to the “Skill” section and select Learn Skills. From there, they'll need to choose an ability type, pick a skill to unlock, and press the confirm button to unlock it via GS points. Players can spend their Grimoire Shards on three things: Action Skills, Passive Skills, and Stats Boosters.

  • Action Skills are attack-oriented, damage-boosting abilities.
  • Passive Skills enhance other abilities without TP consumption.
  • Stats Boosters permanently increase a skill’s effect.

What’s the Difference Between GS and SP?

SP or Skill Points are used to level up a specific ability, while Grimoire Shards are used to learn new skills. Although GS and SP are different currencies, their functions are complementary. Players will need plenty of both to max out characters.
