The following article contains spoilers for Chainsaw Man Part 1.

Summary

  • Kobeni Higashiyama survived Part 1 of Chainsaw Man,
  • Kobeni quits being a Devil Hunter to work as a waitress,
  • Fans are waiting to see if Kobeni appears in Part 2.

Chainsaw Man anime is still covering the Public Safety Saga, also known as Part 1 of the manga. Part 1 and Part 2 have different, and seemingly unrelated, main antagonists, although they are similar in some ways.

As most of the characters from Chainsaw Man Part 1 end up dying in the story, Denji is basically the only one who appears in both parts. However, there is one character who is supposed to be alive by the end of Part 1, Kobeni Higashiyama. So what is Kobeni doing during the events of the Academy Saga?

As the Control Devil, Makima was a societal menace for her own reasons. Although similar, Nayuta is a reflection of Makima's desires.

Who Is Kobeni Higashiyama?

Kobeni may not be a fan favorite of many international fans, but she was actually quite popular among the Japanese fan base during the serialization of Part 1. Well, she does have her charms, even for some international fans.

Basically, Kobeni is a cowardly and easily frightened girl who made a contract with a devil (an undisclosed one, as of the time of writing) and started working as a Devil Hunter to support her family. She states at some point that her devil is a "secret", as if she is ashamed of it.

Well, at least until she quits and becomes a waitress — which, unfortunately, doesn't put her in less danger. Many readers wonder who might be the devil she bonded with — there are many jokes that it should be a devil related to her lack of luck, or any other funny idea fans might come up with.

What Happened to Kobeni In Part 1?

As the Devil Hunter position is full of dangers, and Kobeni is not exactly brave (which does not mean she is not strong), she has enough of it at some point and quits the job. Then she gets a regular job as a waitress.

Unfortunately, she still gets exposed to danger, and she almost dies in many situations. Although Kobeni is known for her bad luck, she is actually very lucky to end up alive in Part 1 — maybe her bad luck doesn't work in really dangerous situations.

She is a recurring character in the Public Safety Saga, and she even goes once on a date with Denji/Chainsaw Devil — another situation in which she could have died.

Will We See Kobeni in Part 2?

The thing is, besides surviving during Part 1, Kobeni has yet to appear in Part 2 — if she appears at all. Fans are still expecting to see how she's doing.

Well, Kobeni's life isn't an easy one, so it might be better for her not to appear at all. This way, fans can just hope that, for once in her life, she is doing fine. Considering the events of Part 1, she should still be out there working as a waitress or something like that — or maybe she got too traumatized by everything.

How Long Until The Anime Covers Part 2?

With the Reze Arc movie set to be released this year, it is expected that Chainsaw Man Season 2 will be announced following the film's premiere. Considering that the first season covered almost 30 chapters, it is likely that Season 2 would cover the rest of the Public Safety Saga.

If Season 2 is released sometime between 2026–2027, we can expect that the anime will start adapting the Academy Saga by 2027–2028.

Chainsaw Man is available to stream on Crunchyroll, subbed and dubbed in many languages.
