Borderlands 4 is having one heck of a punch across all platforms, with the only exception being Switch 2 as that release has been staggered out. There have been some hiccups, especially for PC players, so it’s not perfect, but the game is definitely doing well. That makes two giant releases in just the span of a week as Hollow Knight: Silksong tears up the charts.
As a giant open-world game, players are going to be playing Borderlands 4 for a long time. So, Gearbox probably has plans to fix some major and minor issues with the core experience. Hopefully, they won’t let the looter shooter fans down.
Borderlands 4: Beginner Tips & Tricks
These beginner tips in Borderlands 4 will help guide new and returning players through the wonderfully chaotic world of Kairos.
Gathering Weapons On The Ground Is Tedious
Click All To Grab?
There’s nothing more satisfying than slaying a boss character, world event enemy, or opening a chest and getting littered with guns. It can invoke the same feeling as cracking open a piñata for the first time, except with guns instead of candy.
The problem is, in Borderlands 4, players cannot easily choose a command to take everything similar to other RPGs, like Fallout. It is fun to see guns fly out of enemies, but looting corpses and getting a command prompt to take all items would help players save time.
Players Need A Way To Send Unwanted Weapons Home
Save Up Space
Another gathering issue is that players, especially early on, will run low on inventory space. Players can upgrade their inventory capacity in Borderlands 4 with SDU Tokens, which players should get a good amount of by exploring. Still, it’s always annoying to find a stash of loot and not have enough room, which is why a warp system could get added.
What to Do First in Borderlands 4
If players want to get the best start possible in Borderlands 4, then here's a list of things to keep in mind when they land in Kairos.
Players could sell weapons on the spot or send them home to their vault, provided there is room. If an almost three-decade-old game like Pokemon Blue has an item warping mechanic via Pokemon caught in Pokeballs, then Borderlands 4 should be able to figure it out too.
A Better Method Of Organizing Weapons
Toggling Between Types
The menu is not great to deal with on consoles, although players can adjust the cursor to not be as wild in the options. What they can’t adjust fully is how items are organized, like weapons.
By default, Borderlands 4 will organize all weapons by their manufacturer. Players can toggle the options to reorganize the lineup, like by selecting weapon types instead. Upon leaving the menu, however, this will reset, and it would be helpful if players could adjust what the default organization option is.
More Fast Travel Locations
Why So Few?
There are a good number of traversal options in Borderlands 4, but the fast travel is limited to cities and safe houses for the most part. This doesn’t make a lot of sense, as every checkpoint will revive players in that location.
Why doesn’t every checkpoint also work as a fast travel point? The idea of open-world games is to explore them, so it is somewhat understandable why Gearbox would limit fast travel. They want to encourage discovery and driving the Digirunner is a fun way to find new things, but it would be much more useful to warp around with better fast travel options if players wanted that choice.
Photo Mode
Confirmed, But When?
In June 2025, Gearbox confirmed that Borderlands 4 would be getting a Photo Mode. However, all they said was that it would appear after launch. Since then, there have been no updates about this feature as of the launch window.
Borderlands 3 currently has a Photo Mode, so that’s one aspect that the previous entry has over this sequel. This feature's implementation is a matter of when and not if, so that’s something fans can appreciate. Hopefully, it won’t be months away, and the update will be here before fans know it. For now, it’s a safe bet that Gearbox will want to focus on squashing bugs, especially on the PC side.
Populate The World With Players
Go Beyond Co-Op
Borderlands has been one of the best series to offer a long list of co-op options since its inception in 2009. Co-op has evolved over time too, and Borderlands 4 has the best wealth of options to date. Four players can squad up online. There's matchmaking, crossplay between systems, and even Splitscreen for couch co-op, which is a feature most companies have done away with.
Borderlands 4: All Order Bunkers, Bosses, & Legendary Loot
Players can find out how to unlock all Order Bunkers in Borderlands 4, and the Legendary loot that awaits inside them, right here.
There are many positives to Gearbox’s multiplayer setup, however. Borderlands 4 isn’t quite at the Destiny 2, or even the Destiny level of inclusion yet. Those games populate their areas with random players and offer players co-op options. For such a big open world to explore, it would have been nice to see players appear for things like World Events, or in HUB areas at launch for Borderlands 4. Perhaps Gearbox can fix this with a future patch or DLC.
Launch Missions From The Menu
Choose Your Adventure
There is one additional thing Gearbox could do to help with multiplayer. A new feature for Borderlands 4 is the ability to replay missions, which will let players farm for loot, EXP, and everything in-between. The matchmaking menu is better than what Borderlands 3 had, but it could be better.
For example, the game could allow players to launch a co-op mission, or to search for a co-op mission, based on missions chosen from the replay menu. In Monster Hunter Wilds, players can search for specifics like this when they want to find a mission or specific monster others are hunting online. So, the precedent is there. It may take a while to recode matchmaking in Borderlands 4 to do this, but it would be a useful upgrade if it were patched in.
