Summary

  • Season 10 finale of Chicago Med is filled with intense storylines and emotional moments.
  • Dr. Charles faces difficult conversations about his family's mental health history.
  • Sarah Reeves returns to help Dr. Charles reconcile with his daughters and offers him valuable advice.

Chicago Med season 10 has come to a close, and after showrunner Allen MacDonald said Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) would be the focal point of the dark episode, fans expected a wild, intense, and sad hour of TV. After the return of Charles's daughters Anna (Hannah Riley) and Robin (Mekia Cox) in the previous episode, Charles is at a crossroads as he realizes he could lose Anna and now is the time to make things right with both of his kids.

Chicago Med season 10, episode 22, "... Don't You Cry" picks up where episode 21, "Baby Mine," left off, and the season 10 finale juggles several tough storylines. From two patients who need lungs to a major moment in two doctors' personal lives, this is anything but a boring finale, and it sets up Chicago Med season 11 perfectly.

What Happens At The End Of Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 22, "...Don't You Cry"?

Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos) on Chicago Med

As Chicago Med season 10, episode 22, "...Don't You Cry" gets closer to the end, Lancer (Brooklyn Shuck) and her father, Griffin (Tim DeKay), have a difficult and honest conversation about how he intercepted the lungs meant for a young cystic fibrosis patient named Noah. Alea says she doesn't want the lungs and that she knows her father loves her. It's a devastating moment that speaks to the theme of the Chicago Med season 10 finale: while parents try to do everything they can for their kids, sometimes life deals them a tough deal that they can't change. Griffin admits that he has always felt guilty for not being able to stop his wife and Alea's mom from dying from cancer, so he thought he could save his daughter. It's an upsetting but memorable and genuine scene from the popular doctor drama.

Then, Sharon Goodwin talks to her partner, Dr. Dennis Washington (John Earl Jelks), about the current problem they're dealing with: he has to take a salary cut and title change if he wants to keep his job. Goodwin is still hurt about an earlier storyline: Dr. Dennis Washington didn't tell his daughter about their relationship, which made her feel unimportant. Goodwin tells Dennis they should break up, and she accepts his letter of resignation. Dennis could be one of the characters who leaves after the Chicago Med season 10 finale, as it feels like his arc is over.

Dr. Daniel Charles visits Anna, who is recovering in her hospital bed after driving her car into a tree after suffering from depression. Charles talks to her about their family history of mental health struggles and says he let his therapist job get in the way of being the dad his daughters needed. He opens up and says his parents wouldn't talk about depression, but after he was the one who found his dad after he took his own life, it was of course, a traumatic experience. Anna shares more about the pain she's in, and Charles says he's proud of her and is going to help her. Charles says:

"I promise you, from the bottom of my heart, all I'm going to do is listen."

In a shocking moment, Noah's dad Walter thinks that Noah died as a result of not getting the lungs, and his father pulls a gun on Griffin in a hospital hallway. Dr. John Frost (Daren Barnett) tells Walter that Noah is in surgery getting the lungs right now. While viewers would expect this to be the main crisis of the episode, and a mass shooting has been a major storyline on medical dramas like The Pitt, it's over fairly briefly.

In the final moments of the Chicago Med season 10 finale, Dr. Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos) looks at her positive results for the gene for prion disease called Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker (GSS), which her mom died from. Lenox lied and said she was negative like her brother Kip (Logan Miller), but she learns she's going to get the disease. After getting to know Lenox this season, from her ambition to her wishes to prioritize her career over her personal life, it's a heartbreaking and terrible moment. Then, in a major cliffhanger, Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) knocks on Dr. Dean Archer's (Steven Weber) door and says, "We need to talk." Since she learned she was pregnant at the end of the previous episode, some wonder if this means that Dean is the father of Hannah's baby.

Which Past Cast Member Came Back For The Chicago Med Season 10 Finale?

Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) on Chicago Med

Fans knew at least one past Chicago Med character would be in the finale, and several guessed correctly. Rachel DiPillo returned to reprise her role of Dr. Sarah Reeses and, in an emotional scene, Dr. Charles talks to her about his difficult relationship with his daughters and Sarah helps him see that he's still a good dad.

Sarah did her psychiatry residency at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and, after leaving the series in season 4, she came back for season 10, episode 8, "Love Will Tear Us Apart" to help a patient. It was great to see Sarah again and, this time, she's the one giving Charles some necessary advice.
