Summary

  • Chris Evans is finding success with his latest film, Materialists
  • Evans should focus on building momentum away from Marvel
  • Marvel doesn't need Evans in Avengers: Doomsday; he already had a cameo return in Deadpool & Wolverine

Chris Evans' work as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been fantastic. The popular actor does a great job of making the hero one of the most compelling characters in the franchise. He turns someone who could quite easily have been arrogant or overly annoying into a sympathetic, well-rounded person who audiences always want to see more of, which is why fans want him back in Avengers: Doomsday.

However, with that character having been brought to an end, Evans has been focusing on his career away from the MCU. He recently enjoyed a lot of success, and that is something that should have brought an end to his Marvel run, despite rumors about him being involved in Avengers: Doomsday.

He Has Struggled To Find His Footing Away From The MCU

Evans became a huge name in Hollywood courtesy of his work in the MCU, with those movies being such global films that it's impossible for those who are significant parts of them not to become big stars. However, that doesn't always translate to success outside of that world, and while Evans is a talented actor, he has struggled to find his footing when not fighting supervillains. Major blockbuster attempts such as Red One and Lightyear didn't quite work out in the manner that Evans had hoped, with the majority of his non-Marvel films turning out to be box office flops. It's leading to a negative reputation being built up around him, which is why the success of Materialists is such a big deal for him.

Evans starred alongside Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal for his latest film, and it is proving to be a hit with audiences and critics alike. The film currently boasts an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, proving its popularity, and that's something that Evans' talent deserves. The movie being a hit is interesting timing for him because Marvel Studios is now filming for Avengers: Doomsday, which could see Evans move into that if he is going to be involved.

Chris Evans Should Build His Momentum Away From The Marvel World

He's Already Achieved Everything Within The Superhero Genre

Evans wasn't confirmed as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, but Marvel was open about the fact that other people are set to be revealed, and the franchise is notorious for pulling out surprises. Evans' name has come up in various reports and rumors in recent months about him potentially returning to the franchise to be involved in this blockbuster movie, and that would be an interesting decision in terms of building up the movie. However, while it might help gain more interest in Avengers: Doomsday, that doesn't mean that it is the right decision for him as an actor. Evans has become synonymous with being Captain America and being involved in the superhero genre. While that's been a fantastic chapter in his career, Evans needs to consider his long-term plans beyond that. If he wants to find major roles away from this character, then he will need to eventually say no and step away, and right now is a good time to do it. There's positive momentum surrounding him from Materialists, which he should try to ride into his next project rather than reverting back to what he's done before.

Ultimately, Evans has already done everything that there is within the MCU. His character has starred in a standalone trilogy, while he has also been involved in some of the biggest films of all time, including the Avengers films in which he has been featured. Evans was part of the MCU at its hottest with the natural rise of the original Avengers group and everything building up to Avengers: Endgame, which was an incredible box-office sensation. Returning to that would now feel like a backward step, and that's something that he shouldn't make with his career.

Avengers: Doomsday Wouldn't Be A Weaker Film Without Chris Evans

Chris Evans Already Had A Cameo Return In Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine Chris Evans As Human Torch

From Marvel's perspective, there is no desperate need for Evans to be brought back to the MCU just to make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. While it would likely be a popular decision from the fans to see him pop up in some form, enough characters are involved to try and draw the audience's attention, especially with Robert Downey Jr coming back to the franchise. Fans have already been entertained by Evans's return to the franchise when he reprised his role as the Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine. That was a hilarious moment as it allowed him to take on a truly different character and personality from Captain America, ticking that return box. Therefore, bringing him back would be slightly less interesting to fans in Avengers: Doomsday, which provides Evans with another reason to hold off on returning to the Marvel world.
