Chris Pratt discussed his training regimen with Marvel nutritionists while preparing for his Guardians of the Galaxy role. The dietary restrictions, or lack thereof, in this case, may surprise fans, as the Marvel actor went to extreme measures to improve his physique following Parks and Recreation.
Pratt seems to find himself in controversy every so often, whether it’s questionable public statements made by the actor about his personal life or the divide in fans over Pratt's Mario voice. However, this time, blame may be more accurately put on one outlet for getting the story wrong about the actor’s Guardians of the Galaxy training regime with Marvel nutritionists, which caused quite an up-stir on the internet by those worried about him.
Vanity Fair initially reported that Pratt's Marvel nutritionists would have him drinking 220 glasses of water per day for the Star-Lord role and that this was one glass for every pound he weighed while sweating it out during intense training exercises. This was on a 4,000-calorie-per-day diet, and the other clients of Pratt's nutritionist would be caught staring at him at the gym for the amount Pratt would be sweating. “He’s dripping sweat, out of breath. He was just a guy who was killing himself in the gym,” said his nutritionist. Pratt stated, “I was peeing all day long, every day. That part was a nightmare."
However, Variety Fair had the initial story wrong, and the publication updated the story days later to write that Pratt drank 220 ounces of water per day, one ounce for every pound he weighed. This is equivalent to roughly 13 bottles of water per day. There’s no denying that this intense diet was worth the effort for the actor, as Star-Lord was the role of a lifetime, with even the Guardians game taking inspiration from Pratt's Star-Lord performance.
Pratt initially gained notoriety for playing Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation. The character's charm and humor, partly attributed to Pratt's personality, have made him a beloved fan favorite. His character was only supposed to be in the first season but was so well-liked by producers and audiences that he remained a permanent character in the iconic show. Pratt's improv and comedy skills helped him land the Star-Lord gig and ultimately led to his hero transformation. For fans who want more Star-Lord, a deleted scene from Thor: Love and Thunder might pique their curiosity.
Despite the previous transcription of Pratt's diet, which is deadly, 220 ounces of water a day is still nothing to scoff at, as there would surely be trepidations regarding the lack of sleep with having to use the bathroom all night. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 completed Star-Lord's character arc, and the trilogy was successful, so excessive bathroom breaks are a small price to pay for his role in it.
The Guardians of the Galaxy films are available on Disney Plus.
