Civilization 6: 7 Scariest AI Civilization To Play Against
These AI Civilizations can become a nightmare to deal with for players of Civilization 6.
These districts replace the original ones that exist for other civilizations, such as the Campus and Industrial Zone. Moreover, they also come with a unique advantage compared to the original districts, such as reduced production costs, or extra bonuses that complement the civilization's strength.
8 Hansa (Germany)
The Bread And Butter For Efficiency
- Lower Production cost (27 vs. 54)
- Major bonus (+2) to Production yield with every adjacent Commercial Hub.
- Standard bonus (+1) to Production yield with every adjacent resource.
When talking about unique districts, Germany's Hansa will pop up in the minds of Civilization 6's veteran players due to its huge potential to churn out a large amount of Production per turn with a proper adjacency bonus. With a combination of both Commercial Hub and Aqueduct, a Hansa can generate as many as 40 Production per turn.
Moreover, Hansa also gains a bonus from settling near resources, as it gains bonuses for each adjacent resource. When placed properly, these Hansa can carry the Germans into a quick Science Victory with their huge amount of Production per turn.
7 Observatory (Mayan)
Scientific Progress And City Growth Go Hand-In-Hand
- Lower Production cost (27 vs. 54)
- Major bonus (+2 Science) for every adjacent Plantation.
- Minor bonus (+1/2 Science) for every adjacent farm or district.
Sometimes, focusing on a certain aspect of the game such as science and, consequently, acquiring technology, could leave a city deficient in both productivity and population growth. The Mayans circumvented these limitations with their unique Observatory, replacing the Campus, as it relies on both Plantation and Farm adjacency bonuses.
Civilization 6: 7 Most Optimal Luxury Resources To Improve, Ranked
In Civilization 6, improving these luxury resources will net the player several useful bonuses that shouldn't be overlooked.
With these incentives, Mayan players will be encouraged to settle near fertile lands with an abundance of food on its tiles, guaranteeing population growth in each of its cities. This advantage allows Mayan players to pursue several victory types, such as Science Victory, or even Domination Victory with its huge yield of technology and growth.
6 Seowon (Korea)
Isolated District That Translates To Less Adjacency Planning
- Lower Production cost (27 vs. 54)
- Has a starting adjacency bonus of +4 Science
- -1 Science for each adjacent District
Players who are not well-versed with adjacency bonuses will sometimes prefer to build their districts without too much planning and hope that the bonuses translate well into the future. This type of playstyle makes them suitable to play as Korea since the unique Seowon district enables them to not think too much about adjacency bonuses, making them able to acquire a Science Victory without too much effort.
With its unique modifier, players are less encouraged to place districts around the Seowon as it will reduce its adjacency bonus. Instead, players will be encouraged to surround the Seowon with Farms and Mines as these improvements will receive bonuses from adjacent Seowon due to Korea's civilization ability.
5 Acropolis (Greece)
Acquire Easy Culture And Precious Envoys
- Lower Production cost (27 vs. 54)
- Standard bonus (+1 Culture) for each adjacent District, +1 additional Culture if adjacent to a City Center

Players that are using Greece, especially with the leader Pericles, will find the unique modifier of the Acropolis to be quite powerful, although it seems weak at first glance. The replacement for the Theater Square will award 1 envoy when completed, making it easy for them to become suzerain of certain city-states and obtain large amounts of culture.

New players of Civilization 6 will commonly not expect a horde of Tagma at their doorstep after seeing Byzantine players with the Basil II leader building numerous Hippodromes. This comes from the fact that building a Hippodrome would provide the Byzantine civilization with a free heavy cavalry unit, free of maintenance, making it a viable choice for warmongers.
Moreover, these units can be acquired again for each building constructed in the Hippodrome. This allows Byzantine players to become dominant in terms of military strength in a short period.
3 Suguba (Mali)
A Deadly Combination Of Gold And Faith
- Lower Production cost (27 vs. 54)
- Major bonus (+2 Gold) for a nearby River or Holy Site
- 20% discount on all Gold and Faith purchases in this city
As time progresses in a game of Civilization 6, players will often prefer to churn out units and buildings via Gold and Faith after getting surpluses of both resources. However, these can cost a lot, rendering the treasury empty after one or two purchases. Mali can avoid these pitfalls with its unique Suguba.
With the major adjacency bonuses of a nearby River and Holy Site, a Suguba can produce 5 Gold bonuses per turn and deliver a large amount of Gold to the player. Moreover, its 20% discount enables cheaper purchases of both Gold and Faith, making Mali a strong contender for any victory type.
2 Lavra (Russia)
A Favorite For Religious Victory Seekers

- +1 Great Writer point per turn if there is a Shrine in the Lavra

Strongest And Most Unique District In The Game
- Unlocked with Iron Working
- Lower Production cost (27 vs. 54)
- Unlocks Outer Defenses and Ranged Strike, as well as the City Center, after Walls are constructed
- Unlocks Apprenticeship when the first Oppidum is built
Although the Gauls have been in the game for years, many players still don't realize the sheer power that civilization has with its one simple unique district, the Oppidum. Replacing the Industrial Zone, the Oppidum can be built after researching Iron Working, making it easier to acquire in the early game. Moreover, building the district will grant the player Apprenticeship technology as well.
This district would also acquire Outer Defenses and Ranged Strike when the city builds a wall. This allows the city with both an Oppidum and Walls to be defended with ease, as invaders will need to go through at least two layers of defenses before they can take down the city.
