The team at Firaxis Games and publisher 2K has confirmed that Sid Meier's Civilization 7 has gone gold ahead of its February 11, 2025, launch. Going gold in the gaming industry means a game has entered its final stage of development and is ready for release. This process would also involve Civilization 7 being shipped out to manufacturers for printing and packaging.

The Civilization franchise is a turn-based strategy series first released in 1991 and developed by American businessman and computer programmer Sid Meier. There are seven games in the series, including the upcoming release, combined with several expansion packs, spin-offs, and board games. Civilization 7 will be released on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox, and Valve recently shared some good news for handheld players. It was confirmed that Civilization 7 was Steam Deck-verified, becoming the first installment in the series to receive the Steam Deck-verified badge.

Posting on social media, the official Civilization 7 account announced the game had gone gold, using the on-brand phrase “We’ve struck gold!” In the caption. Fans have plenty to expect from Civilization 7, including evolved combat and a reworking of gameplay where leaders aren’t tied to nations. Players can also indulge in multiplayer matches spanning single-age or multi-age campaigns, with cross-play between PC and consoles making conquering with friends easier. Furthermore, fans can either follow a historically accurate path or choose to carve an original legacy that echoes throughout gameplay.

Civilization 7 Has Gone Gold Ahead of February Launch

Civilization 7 also harbors several returning features from its predecessor, such as natural and man-made wonders like the Terracotta Army and Mount Kilimanjaro. This is a welcome callback to past entries that fans appreciate, and the Civilization community was flooding the gone gold announcement with “one more turn” comments. Additionally, it was eye-opening to see how many players had pre-ordered the next chapter, and the impatience to play immediately began growing.

During the build-up to release, fans were offered a selection of Civilization 7 special editions to pre-order, and some of these purchases came with bonuses. The seventh installment offers Standard, Deluxe, Founders, and Collector’s Editions, with the Collector’s variant being the most expensive with a price tag of $279.99 but offering a Passage of Time real-working clock, Scout figure, Yield Icon Patch Set, and much more. Furthermore, by pre-ordering the Standard Edition, players will gain access to the Tecumseh Leader and the Shawnee Civilization.
