Civilization 7 was released less than a month ago, but the anticipation surrounding the game has been building over the course of several years. The Civilization series is a household name, and its influence can be felt in plenty of other games within the strategy genre. In essence, Civilization 7 is expected to follow plenty of the series' traditions and potentially even establish a few new trends of its own.

On the latter front, Civilization 7 has introduced Ages, a bold system that sets the game apart from its predecessors. However, Civ 7's similarities to previous entries can be just as compelling as its differences. Of course, it wouldn't be Civilization without Leaders to define it, and one longstanding strategy is alive and well in Civilization 7.

Civilization 7 Lets Napoleon Wage All-Out War on Other Leaders

Civilization 7 Stays True to Napoleon's Militaristic History

Civilization 7's official website refers to Napoleon as "one of history's most infamous leaders." That is no doubt an apt description, and Napoleon's history in the Civilization series has been appropriately infamous to reflect this. Napoleon has been present in Civilization from the very beginning, although not always as a playable Leader.

Whenever he has been playable, Napoleon has often been a formidable foe. Napoleon is especially geared towards waging war, regardless of if someone is playing as him or against him. Civilization 7's Napoleon has been designed for much the same purpose, and players should be sure to learn his unique attributes if they want to take out their competition.

Napoleon's Civilization 7 Unique Ability Explained

In Civilization 5, Napoleon was uniquely well-suited towards pursuing a Cultural Victory in France. With Leaders and Civs being mixed around in Civilization 7, players are generally more free to customize their experience for whatever route they prefer. However, one strategy for Napoleon allows players to have a walk in the park by waging an all-out war.

Napoleon's Emperor Persona has a unique ability called "Empereur des Français." Among other things, this ability increases Napoleon's Gold per Age for every Leader with whom Napoleon has a negative relationship. Using this ability, players can take an aggressive playstyle for massive gain, and they can often earn so much Gold that the downsides of their aggression are already paid for.

Civilization 7 Napoleon War Strategy Explained

Whenever a player encounters a new Civilization, they are prompted to issue a greeting. With this strategy, players should always issue a neutral greeting to avoid spending any Influence. Then, they should immediately declare war on the leader in question to provoke a hostile relationship. Players can then spend the Influence they have saved up on bolstering their own war efforts, while using other methods to ensure that their army is a force to be reckoned with. Unique units go a long way, so players should be careful when selecting which Civilization to pair with Napoleon.

Waging war in Civilization 7 doesn't come without cost, and a Leader's citizens will very likely become unhappy with being at war all the time. Thankfully, the extra Gold gained through this approach can be spent on increasing happiness, and players will ultimately find themselves expanding their territory much faster than the competition. As long as one is willing to play a little fast and loose, they can use this strategy to reap great rewards while spitting in the face of the risk.
