The narrator for Sid Meier's Civilization 7, planned for launch in February 2025, will be Gwendoline Christie, a core cast member of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. Christie's acting career spans back to 2007, though she landed her breakout role in 2012 during the second season of Game of Thrones as Brienne of Tarth. Originally serving as a member of the Kingsguard to Renly Baratheon, the character's journey saw her become the protector of the Stark sisters before being knighted by Ser Jaime Lannister. Ultimately, she was appointed as a member of the Kingsguard to Bran the Broken in the series finale.

Christie has since gone on to star in major motion picture series like The Hunger Games and the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and a new live-action cinematic trailer for Civilization 7 has revealed her next big role as the game's narrator. The new trailer shows Christie walking through a darkened room filled with living dioramas depicting things like the construction of the pyramids and a rocket shooting into space, which mark key discoveries that players regularly experience in the game series. It's a fitting scenario, as the main role of the narrator in the Civilization games is to provide key quotes from historical writings whenever a player discovers a new piece of technology.

Gwendoline Christie Will Narrate Civilization 7

Prior to Christie, Sean Bean served as narrator in Civilization 6, and is best known for his roles as Ned Stark in Game of Thrones' first season and Boromir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Prior to Bean's casting, the role of narrator had been filled primarily by actors best known for their Star Trek roles, with Leonard Nimoy and W. Morgan Sheppard filling the narrator's spot for Civilization 4 and 5, respectively.

While Christie's addition to the cast is exciting for many fans of the series, Civilization 7 will also introduce a variety of new features to keep the gameplay fresh. In addition to the inclusion of new leaders and ages, the game will also feature a Crisis System, introducing cataclysmic events that build up over the course of an age. The game will also lay out Legacy Paths, guiding players towards specific milestones on their path to victory.
