7 Beginner Tips For Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Get started in this beautifully dark RPG right with some safe guidelines and helpful early-game pointers to follow in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Attack power for Free Aim weapons upgrades automatically depending on how players level up their heroes in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. For the actual weapons, players can find them all over the game, they can win them in matches, or buy them. For the early hours, let's go through the weapons best suited for Gustave, Lune, and Maelle, ranked by their power and usefulness.
8 Cruleram
Fight Enemies In Flying Waters
- Character: Gustave
The
Cruleram is a sword for Gustave that can be obtained by fighting a wild group of monsters in Flying Waters. It’s recommended to fight mobs of enemies in dungeons at least once because they can sometimes hide weapons or Pictos in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Unlock most weapons in the game, the Cruleram has no upgrade path for its levels, but it does have ice elemental damage. That alone makes it a good weapon for Gustave when a dungeon with monsters weak to ice does appear.
7 Gaulteram
Fight Bourgeon On The World Map
- Character: Gustave
The
Gaulteram is another weapon for Gustave, based on earth, and it can be acquired on the world map after players obtain Esquie. If players head north of Esquie’s layer, they will find a large monster named Bourgeon, the same monster that players can encounter in Flying Waters. It’s a tough mini-boss because it can swallow allies whole, but effective dodges and using lightning-based attacks can take it down. Esquie is like a vehicle players can find in Final Fantasy games that can transport them across land, sea, and air.
6 Troubadim
Fight Chromatic Troubadour In Flying Waters
- Character: Lune
The
Troubadim is a weapon for Lune, who is like the game’s equivalent of a mage in an RPG. This weapon has no elements associated with it, but it does have good level upgrades, so players should find and kill the Chromatic Troubadour min-boss in Flying Waters.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - 5 Best Attributes To Level Up, Ranked
Leveling up Attributes in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the best way to improve each character's stats, and these are the ones to focus on.
The starting bonus will make Free Aim hit multiple targets. At level ten, Free Aim attacks do 50% more damage, and the final upgrade can generate a Stain. A Stain is based on Lune’s elemental attacks and can be used for various skills.
5 Sekarum
Gestral Village Merchant
- Character: Maelle
Compared to other weapons, the
Sekarum is one of the easiest to get for Maelle. Players just need to find a merchant named Eesda within Gestral Village, which is somewhere that players need to go to in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s story. This weapon has a starting bonus that will switch Maelle to her Virtuose Stance if players Break an enemy, and this Stance gives her a 200% attack bonus. The next level will cause Free Aim attacks to break two Shields on enemies if they have them up, and the final upgrade will make all Virtuose Stance attacks break through Shields.
4 Brulerum
Fight Enemies In Flying Waters
- Character: Maelle
The
Brulerum is another weapon for Maelle, which is fire-based, and players just have to encounter a random mob of enemies within Flying Waters. The starting level bonus will cause critical hits to apply Burn. Burn is a great status effect in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that will cause fire-based damage to be applied every turn for a set amount. At level ten, two Burn effects will be stacked on an enemy, and the final upgrade will cause Maelle to hit critical strikes 100% of the time so long as she has no Stance.
3 Trebuchim
Fight Enemies In Ancient Sanctuary
- Character: Lune
The
Trebuchim is a weapon for Lune that can be obtained from an enemy mob within the Ancient Sanctuary. It has a lightning element attached, and the starting bonus will generate a Stain for every Free Aim attack.
All Music Record Locations in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Players who want to earn the Connoisseur achievement in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 can find the locations of 33 music records detailed here.
At level ten, one point of AP will regenerate if players consume Lune’s accrued Stains, like if players use her Mayhem skill in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Finally, at level twenty, Lune’s normal attacks will generate two random Stains.
2 Lighterim
Found In Spring Meadows
- Character: Lune
The
Lighterim is another weapon for Lune, and this can be found in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's first dungeon, Spring Meadows, just lying around a bunch of crates. It is imbued with fire, which will come in handy in the Ancient Sanctuary as enemies in there are weak to it.
Innately, this weapon will reduce the cost of fire-based skills for Lune, like Wildfire. At level ten, fire-based attacks will do 20% more damage, and at the final upgrade, Lune will start with one Strain of ice magic, which is odd for a fire-infused weapon to generate in any RPG.
1 Medalum
Compete With Maelle In Gestral Village’s Arena
- Character: Maelle
The best starter weapon in the game is for Maelle, the
Medalum, and it is easily missable. During the Gestral Village arc of the game, players have to compete in a tournament, and they can only take one character into battle.
If they go through it with Maelle, she can get this weapon. With the Medalum, she will start a battle in Virtuose Stance, and all other upgrades will help with fire-based damage. Getting the Medalum is critical to finishing the One-Puncho side quest early in Gestral Village.
