In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, every playable character has a unique combat purpose and mechanics for players to master. Sciel stands as one of the best damage dealers in the game, relying on her Dark damage skills to eliminate hordes of weaker enemies or deliver a devastating blow to a single target. By mastering the flow of applying and consuming Foretells to increase Sciel's damage and skill effectiveness, as well as generating Sun and Moon charges, players can reach the Twilight state, which grants numerous benefits and increases all damage by up to 200%.

Sciel wields stylish double scythes as her weapon. Players can find and upgrade over 20 unique weapons with special perks unlocking at levels 4, 10, and 20. When shaping the best builds for Sciel, players need to examine each new weapon's scaling, damage type, and unlockable perks, which could be game-changers. Below is a look at some of the best weapons for Sciel in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, highlighting their combat benefits and potential synergies.

Updated December 10, 2025, by Vlad Mazanko: Sciel's combat mechanics might feel confusing at first, as players must maintain momentum by switching between Sun, Moon, and Twilight states while applying and consuming Foretells to remain effective. Once players settle on their preferred skills and perks, however, things become far more straightforward, unlocking her devastating damage potential.

Sciel's weapon arsenal is equally vast and diverse, offering over 20 unique double-bladed scythes to choose from when crafting powerful builds in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The list has been updated to include additional strong weapon options for Sciel, complete with detailed stats, potential tactics, and the best combat synergies.

14 Direton

Turn Extra AP into Damage Boost

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Sciel Direton
  • Scaling: Defense & Agility
  • Element: Earth
  • Direton

Level 4

+1 AP per Moon charge on turn start.

Level 10

Base Attack gives 1 Moon charge.

Level 20

During Twilight, Base Attack consumes all AP. Base Attack applies 1 Foretell and deals 50% increased damage per AP consumed.

From the get-go, Direton's biggest weakness is its Earth alignment, meaning many enemies are either resistant to its base damage or can even consume it to heal. Otherwise, Direton is a strong situational choice with neat Moon Charge synergy, allowing players to stack Moon Charges and gain extra AP to fuel the most expensive skills in Sciel's arsenal.

Direton also offers an interesting way to scale Sciel's Base Attack damage to incredible numbers, especially when combined with Combo Attack pictos. With its ability to increase damage by 50% for each AP consumed during Twilight, players can hit enemies really hard once they've amassed extra AP by stacking Moon Charges. The best part is that any other method for saving or gaining AP works too, adding a flexible layer for damage boosting.

13 Chation

Versatile and Powerful, yet Quite Demanding

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Sciel Chation
  • Scaling: Vitality & Luck
  • Element: Dark
  • Chation

Level 4

Sun Skills always apply 10 Foretell, but all damage taken is doubled.

Level 10

Base Attack gives 1 Moon charge and consumes all Foretell to apply Burn.

Level 20

100% increased Burn damage in Twilight state.

Like Bourgelon, Chation is one of Sciel's weapons that grants decent Burn synergies, including double Burn damage during Twilight at max level. But that's not even Chation's best perk — this weapon is also a Foretell-applying machine. By using any Sun Skill, Sciel will always apply 10 Foretell to an enemy, which can then be either transformed into Burn or consumed for extra damage with her most powerful skills.

Clair Obscur, & 7 Other Games That Became Internet Darlings

These games are only mentioned by players with awe — and for good reason.

However, Chation's power is quite demanding, as Sciel takes double damage from every source. This renders Chation almost unsuitable for players who miss occasional hits, as some elite enemies and bosses might insta-kill her. If Chation's strengths outweigh this drawback, or players have tactics to, say, shield Sciel from damage, it might be worth it, but overall, there are some much more tempting choices.

12 Bourgelon

Tricky to Master, but Offering Rare Burn Synergy

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Sciel Bourgelon
  • Scaling: Vitality & Agility
  • Element: Light
  • Bourgelon

Level 4

Consuming Foretell applies 2 Burn on target per Sun Charge.

Level 10

100% increased Burn damage in Twilight state.

Level 20

Sun Skills give one more charge.

There aren't many weapons for Sciel that perfectly synergize with Burn, and Bourgelon is definitely one of the strongest, although mastering it requires significant effort, making it unsuitable for inexperienced players. Not only does it apply 2 Burn to the target per Sun Charge, but Bourgelon also increases Burn damage by up to 100%. It's worth noting that some Sciel skills allow stacking Sun Charges and Burns via multiple hits, resulting in multiple Burns applied after a single turn.

Naturally, it's better to play in a squad with Maelle and Lune to maximize Burns' potential. Experienced players can even use Burns almost like Foretells with Maelle, with Sciel and Lune primarily serving to place them massively on enemies. Coupled with Sciel's 100% increased Burn damage in Twilight, though, some enemies might not even survive until Maelle's turn.

11 Litheson

It's All About Buffing and Debuffing

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Sciel Litheson
  • Scaling: Agility & Luck
  • Element: Physical
  • Litheson

Level 4

During Moon, all allies have Greater Rush. During Sun, all enemies have Greater Slow.

Level 10

During Twilight, all allies have Greater Rush and all enemies have Greater Slow.

Level 20

Once per turn grants +3 AP on applying a Buff or Debuff.

Litheson is not only a cool-looking weapon but a genuinely strong one, perfectly suited for players who master buffing and debuffing in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Using Litheson alone provides ample opportunities to buff allies and debuff enemies, potentially freeing up picto slots for other effects. With Litheson equipped, the player's squad acts more frequently, consistently outpacing enemies in the turn order.

clair obscur game of the year personal
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Does Two Things I Hate, And It's Still My Game of the Year

Clair Obscur: Expedition has two of my big pet peeves in an RPG and yet it's still the best game I played in 2025.

At Level 20, Litheson becomes even more appealing: it grants Sciel an extra 3 AP per turn — extremely valuable given how costly her skills typically are. Better yet, even without strictly adhering to Moon and Twilight conditioning, a max-level Litheson still delivers a generous AP bonus every turn as long as supportive pictos with buffs are equipped.

10 Hevason

Transforms Sciel Into A Deadly Sniper

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Hevason Sciel
  • Scaling: Vitality & Defense
  • Element: Physical
  • Hevasson
Level 4 Free Aim shots can consume a Sun charge to apply 5 Fortell, and consume a Moon charge to deal 400% more damage.
Level 10 Consuming a Sun or Moon charge gives 1 AP.
Level 20 Base Attack gives 1 Moon charge.

Hevason might not be the best melee weapon for Sciel, yet it's hard to ignore the sweet bonus of dealing 400% more damage with Free Aim Shots. Granted, the ability to shoot isn't as life-saving later in the game. But if players acquire Hevason early, they can shape Sciel into a deadly sniper, further enhancing the potential of shooting with Pictos and Lumina. Given how many early-game Pictos can boost shot effectiveness with additional effects like Marks, with the right setup, Hevason can deliver spectacular results.

Gaining an extra AP (action point) by consuming charges at Level 10 is valuable and can extend Sciel's shooting capabilities. However, in the late game, Hevason may be worth trading for a more powerful option. Its Level 20 perk is underwhelming and forces players to rely on base attacks to gain benefits. Additionally, the weapon's weird appearance might not appeal to all players.

9 Corderon

An Interesting Risk-Reward Choice With Extra Turn

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Corderon Sciel
  • Scaling: Defense & Luck
  • Element: Dark
  • Corderon

Level 4

Curse self on battle start. Deal 50% more damage while Cursed.

Level 10

Reset Curse duration when entering Twilight state.

Level 20

Play again when entering Twilight state.

Corderon is a notable weapon for experienced players in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 due to its risk-reward Cursed synergy, which requires players to consistently enter Twilight state to reset the status's duration. Otherwise, Sciel will die automatically at the end of it. However, if players can successfully maintain the rotation of Twilight state, they not only gain a substantial 50% bonus to all damage but also an extra turn every time they enter Twilight.

clair-obscur-weapons-guide-game-rant
How to Get Every Weapon in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

There are dozens of weapons to collect and use in battle throughout Clair Obscur Expedition 33's 30-hour story.

That said, while Corderon's perks are quite strong, this weapon's base damage is notably weaker than that of many other available options. Combined with the tricky mechanics of staying Cursed throughout the battle and the risk of dying, players may prefer to prioritize another Sciel weapon unless they are seeking uniqueness and build variety for subsequent runs.

8 Gobluson

Great For Crowd Control

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Gobluson Sciel
  • Scaling: Defense & Agility
  • Element: Fire
  • Gobluson

Level 4

During Twilight, every time Foretell is applied, it also affects another random enemy.

Level 10

Apply 1 Burn every 3 Foretell applied with Skills.

Level 20

20% increased Fire damage with Skills.

Gobluson is among the best Sciel weapons when dealing with numerous enemies or bosses that keep summoning additional foes throughout the battle. With its strong perk synergy, players can apply Foretell and Burn to additional enemies during Twilight, which can then be used effectively to dispatch them quickly with Sciel or any other character, while also allowing Sciel to build charges more easily or trigger various Pictos effects.

As with many weapons, the Level 20 perk is somewhat underwhelming, adding only 20% of Fire damage dealt by Skills. This sounds decent until considering that very few of Sciel's skills actually deal Fire damage. In any case, even without this perk, Gobluson can still be utilized very effectively in many combat scenarios in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

7 Lusteson

Forget The Light, Embrace The Dark

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Lusteson Sciel Weapon
  • Scaling: Vitality & Agility
  • Element: Dark
  • Lusteson

Level 4

Killing an enemy with Foretell applies its Foretell to another random enemy.

Level 10

Apply Mark on consuming Foretell.

Level 20

20% increased Dark damage with Skills.

Lusteson is an excellent choice for Sciel when facing multiple strong enemies at once. With this weapon, every Foretell that would otherwise be lost transfers to another enemy instead, saving the effort of applying them from scratch. Additionally, at Level 10, Lusteson applies a Mark on enemies after consuming a Foretell, so it makes things easier for the characters who come after.

expedition 33 maelle
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Best Maelle Weapons, Ranked

For those looking to make the most of Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, here are the best weapons available to her.

1

Lusteson's primary Dark element, combined with a 20% increase in Dark damage from skills, makes Sciel nearly unstoppable against enemies vulnerable to Dark damage. However, it becomes less effective against enemies resistant to Dark damage, unless players use Pictos to convert all damage types.

6 Martenon

It's All About Twilight

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Martenon Sciel Weapon
  • Scaling: Vitality & Agility
  • Element: Earth
  • Martenon

Level 4

On Twilight Start, deal damage to all enemies based on the amount of charges.

Level 10

On Twilight Start, apply 2 Foretell per charge to all enemies.

Level 20

Double Sun and Moon charge generation.

Martenon is all about Twilight, so players need to find a way to enter this enhanced state for Sciel as quickly as possible to capitalize on this weapon's strong perks. Upon entering Twilight, Sciel applies two Foretells per charge to all enemies and also deals damage to all enemies based on the number of Sun and Moon charges. All that's left is to hit enemies with something powerful to consume Foretells for increased damage, and the Dark Wave skill can get the job done.

The double Sun and Moon charge generation, even outside of Twilight, is just a cherry on top for the Level 20 Martenon. It offers a strong benefit for Sciel at all times if players, for some reason, can't trigger the Twilight state quickly enough.

5 Guleson

Perk Synergy That Is Hard To Resist

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Guleson Sciel
  • Scaling: Agility & Luck
  • Element: Lightning
  • Guleson

Level 4

On Twilight Start, apply Mark to all enemies.

Level 10

Hitting a Marked enemy during Twilight doesn't remove Mark.

Level 20

Apply 3 Foretell on applying Mark.

Another potent choice among Sciel weapons in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Guleson offers strong synergy with its perks while also being a somewhat rare Lightning-dealing weapon with attractive scaling. With this one, combat tactics are straightforward: players just need to ensure they can reach Twilight state with Sciel quickly and use at least the Level 20 version of Guleson to apply both Mark for increased damage and other bonuses, as well as 3 Foretell for extra damage and charge generation to all enemies.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Best Weapons For Monoco Ranked
Clair Obscur Expedition 33: All Monoco Weapons, Ranked

Monoco stands as the most unique playable character, and his weapons are equally amazing, capable of greatly boosting the strength of his skills.

The best thing about Guleson is the abundance of skills, Pictos, and weapon perks that can be synergized with Mark for an even more devastating result. Using Sciel to Mark enemies while keeping Mark applied even when hitting them can set up a perfect opportunity to quickly finish off survivors with any party member whose turn comes next.
