Developed by the French indie studio Sandfall Interactive, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will take place in a dark fantasy world and feature a turn-based combat system reminiscent of the Persona games. Players will embark on a quest across varied landscapes to stop the Paintress, an all-powerful being able to kill everyone of a certain age by painting a number in the sky. The unique story and polished art style quickly became a hot topic following its reveal in 2024, with its star-studded cast also wowing the community. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's voice cast will include Ben Starr (Final Fantasy 16), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings), and Devora Wilde (Baldur's Gate 3), among others.

Despite Clair Obscur: Expedition 33' s Collector's Edition only being announced last week, the development team has announced that it has sold out. A recent Twitter post explains that the studio never expected such high demand for its Collector's Edition, with the developer thanking fans for their incredible support. It also notes that the creation and development of the physical Collector's Edition was no easy feat. "Though we will try our best to explore the options of restocking, we cannot promise it yet and we hope you understand the limitations with this," the post reads. "With that said, we feel your support louder and clearer than ever." The PS5 Collector's Edition was sold for $149.99 and included in-game bonuses, a hand-painted music box statuette, a Steelbook featuring Gustave, Maelle, and the Paintress, and a 48-page Expeditioner’s Journal showing off the game’s art.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Collector's Edition Sells Out in Days
Despite boasting a team of only 30 developers and operating on a smaller budget than its triple-A counterparts, Sandfall Interactive continues to impress the gaming community. Clair Obsur: Expedition 33's price point of only $49.99 scored some additional points for the developer, with Sandfall explaining that it wanted the game to be accessible to as many people as possible. The title's main story will reportedly take around 30 hours to complete, though it will also include a reasonable amount of side content for players wanting to discover everything.
During the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23, it was announced that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be available as a day one Xbox Game Pass title on April 24. It has also been confirmed that the RPG will receive enhancement boosts on the PlayStation 5 Pro, though the specifics have not yet been announced.
