The following article contains spoilers about the playable characters in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Please proceed with caution.
Among the many Gestrals players will meet in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, three are arguably the most important figures: Noco, Golgra, and Monoco. Noco is the first Gestral the expeditioners meet after reuniting with Maelle, while Golgra can be found shortly after, at the Gestral Village. Golgra is the Chief of the Gestrals, and she's known to be "absurdly strong." To test her strength, players can provoke Golgra to a duel at the Chief's House. However, if players decide to do this when they first arrive at the Gestral Village in Expedition 33, Golgra will likely beat them up real bad.
This may cause players to wonder how to beat Golgra and the rewards for beating her in Expedition 33. After all, a boss this strong must have a reward that matches their power.

Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an excellent early game DPS that can also work as a support later on; here's how to build Maelle.
Golgra Boss Fight Rewards In Expedition 33
There are four scenarios where players will fight Golgra in Expedition 33:
- Provoking Golgra into a fight inside the Chief's House in the Gestral Village.
- Talk to Golgra as Monoco inside the Chief's House in the Gestral Village.
- Participating in the battles in Dark Gestral Arena.
- At the Sacred River during Monoco's friendship quest.
Among the four scenarios, the first one is the hardest, while the other three are fairly easy.
The easiest battle against Golgra is the second scenario, as players can easily beat her even in the early game. This is why the rewards for this fight is far lower in level, which are:
Meanwhile, in scenarios 1, 3, and 4, Golgra would give
Grandiose Chroma Catalyst x3 as a reward, with additional rewards in the first scenario, since Golgra is far tougher.
Should You Provoke Golgra At The Chief's House? - Expedition 33
There's no negative impact to provoking Golgra or even losing against her, so yes, once players defeat the Paintress, it's highly recommended to provoke Golgra to a duel in Expedition 33 to claim the available rewards.
After provoking Golgra into a duel and beating her, players will get three types of rewards: guaranteed, non-guaranteed, and character-specific.
-
Guaranteed reward:
Grandiose Chroma Catalyst
x3
-
Non-guaranteed reward:
Recoat
x1
Golgra battle is one of the easiest ways to farm
Grandiose Chroma Catalyst in the late game.
Character-specific Rewards
Golgra gives a weapon depending on which character won the duel against her. If players already have the weapon level 27 or above, it will be converted to Chroma. If the weapon is below said level, it will be upgraded automatically.

How To Beat Golgra In Expedition 33
Fighting Golgra by provoking her at the Gestral Village is best done later in the game, since she has a massive pool of over three million HP. Her hits will also one-shot your character in the early game, although they're not hard to dodge once you understand the pattern. There's also an obvious sound cue for her hits.
However, despite her hits not being the hardest to avoid, her HP will force players to fight for a long time if they initiate the duel in the early game. Additionally, Golgra also has some Gradient hits that can only be avoided after learning about them in the mid-game.
Golgra's attacks vary from a 3-hit to a 6-hit move. She has one attack that requires a jump dodge + Gradient counter, and one ability that only needs a Gradient counter. When her HP is below 50%, Golgra gets angry and gains the Powerful and Rush buffs. Players can remove these buffs by applying the Powerless or Slow debuffs, although it's not required.
Luminas
Other than the obvious
Painted Power Luminas, players should also use the following abilities, as they're all perfect for a solo fight:
-
Accelerating Last Stand
-
Empowering Last Stand
-
Last Stand Critical
-
Protecting Last Stand
-
Solo Fighter
Additionally, the following Luminas are overpowered, although not easy to get.
-
Cheater: Obtainable from beating Sprong.
-
Energy Master: Obtainable from beating Serpenphare.
- Clea's Life: Obtainable from beating a boss in the Flying Manor. It recovers the wearer's health to full when the turn starts if no damage is taken since the last turn. It's practically a guaranteed full heal when combined with Cheater, which allows a character to move twice in a row, allowing them to fulfill the "no damage taken since last turn" requirement.
