The journey across the Continent in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 can be just as treacherous as it is thrilling, and pacing your party accordingly is the key to success against all challenges in the game. Whether it's adjusting and upgrading their equipment or simply giving them a moment to rest, it's important not to pass an opportunity to make the most of the rewards and improvements you've earned for them.
The best way to do that in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is by visiting your Camp whenever possible. If you're not sure how to use this feature, this guide helps explain all that it entails, from how to reach your Camp to all the services it provides.
This guide features progression-related spoilers that reveal certain unlocked playable and NPC characters, so please read ahead with discretion.
How to Go to Camp in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
The Camp in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a feature that's not immediately available from the start of the game. You first need to defeat the Eveque boss in Act 1: Gustave, after which Gustave and Lune can leave the Spring Meadows region and reach the overworld for the first time.
At this point, you should see a 'Go to Camp' option in the bottom left corner of your screen (as seen above). Select it, and your party will be automatically sent to your Camp. Along with serving as a scenic opportunity to pause your journey in a safe area, you also get access to other services that aren't provided at Expedition Flags.
All Services Available at Camp in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
As you've probably noticed by a certain point in the game, there are only a handful of things you can do via your Party menu as you progress through each region of the Continent. Adjusting your Pictos as they unlock new traits for you, switching out weapons as needed, or viewing your list of discovered Journals or Inventory. Though these may be helpful while on the move, there are more vital services that can only be accessed while at your Camp.
For starters, your Camp allows you to visit the Curator, whom you "unlock" during your first visit to The Manor in the Flying Waters region. After you successfully defeat him in a battle, he'll become a permanent fixture at your Camp and help you with upgrading your weapons and your expedition resources. As you'll be continuously obtaining more new weapons and the
Chroma Catalyst required to upgrade them, you'll be using his services quite often.
While at Camp, you can also use the nearby gramophone to play any Music Records that you've unlocked during your travels. If you haven't found any yet, the gramophone won't be usable (as seen above).
You can also interact with the campfire itself for more options. For instance, you can trigger optional cutscenes with fellow party members by selecting 'Check up on the others', and this will unlock the 'Curious' achievement for you. You can only choose this option once per campfire visit. Furthermore, once Verso joins your party later in the story, the option to 'spend time' with various party members will start becoming available, and these can help strengthen relationships.
There's also the option to write in Gustave's journal, and it doesn't necessarily lead to any achievements or other hidden progression, but still provides an immersive moment for Gustave to reflect on his recent experiences. You can also double-check your current objective by interacting with the campfire. The game isn't always crystal clear with its geographic or story-related objectives, so this serves as your best hint source.
You can also interact with the Expedition Flag at the camp to use any of the typical options, such as 'Rest' or newly earned Attribute Points or Skill Points where needed. Finally, choosing the 'Sleep' option at the campfire effectively ends your time at the Camp and sends you back out to your current position in the Overworld.
