A new update for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is here, introducing some balance adjustments and fixing some ongoing bugs. Since its release in late April, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has taken the gaming world by storm, with the indie smash-hit quickly becoming a major contender for 2025's Game of the Year.

After becoming the highest user-rated game in Metacritic's history, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has continued to break records, with developer Sandfall Interactive recently announcing that the game had sold 3.3 million copies in its first 33 days. Both a critical and commercial success, the French JRPG-inspired title has won over audiences with its graphical prowess, addictive gameplay, stunning soundtrack, and stellar voice cast, along with its world and lore. The developers are continuing to add polish to the game, with the newest Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 patch finally here.

Clair Obscur Player Reaches Maximum New Game Plus Level

A dedicated Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 player manages to reach the maximum New Game+ level.

Update 1.3.0 for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is making some balancing changes to Story Mode, the game's easiest difficulty setting. Parry and dodge windows have been increased by 40 percent in this mode, with incoming damage reduced anywhere from 10 to 50 percent. Players who have reached Act 3 will now be able to make some modifications at flag checkpoints, including limiting max player damage or multiplying enemy HP to add some additional challenge. Nearly 300 bug fixes have also been applied, with cutscenes now scaling properly on ultrawide and non-standard resolutions and some crashes being addressed. Additionally, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 boss Simon can now be challenged again after players defeat him for the first time. The update is available now on PC, and will hit PS5 sometime today.

More updates are expected to roll out for the popular RPG in the future, with a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 photo mode expected in an upcoming patch. The developers have also addressed potential DLC following the game's incredible success, with Expedition 33 lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen stating that "chances are good" that more story content will be added at some point. According to Svedbard-Yen, Sandfall Interactive is still coming to terms with the game's popularity.

As the developers ponder DLC content for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Sandfall Interactive is also working on a new game. Little is known about the project at this time, but producer François Meurisse has called it more difficult and a title with even higher expectations. While the response to Expedition 33 has been huge, the developers also took note of mistakes made and opportunities missed in the hit title, and are seeking to improve going forward.
