Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 developer Sandfall Interactive has revealed that work has already begun on its next game, promising it will be "very unique and artsy." Given this description, it feels as though the next title from Sandfall Interactive will be right along the same lines as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Battle against a tough enemy - Clair Obscur Expedition 33

Released back in April, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 quickly became one of the year's biggest surprises. Word of mouth quickly began to spread about the game, with its blend of JRPG-style turn-based combat and rich narrative proving to be an enormous hit. Now, it remains one of the front-runners for the 2025 Game of the Year race, alongside games like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hades 2. The game has put developer Sandfall Interactive on the map, and gamers are naturally curious to see what comes next.

One of Baldur's Gate 3's developers praises Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, one of the most talked-about titles of 2025.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Developer's Next Game Is Going to Be 'Very Unique and Artsy'

Speaking to PCGamesN, Sandfall Interactive CEO and creative director Guillaume Broche confirmed that the studio is "starting to think and work on the next real game," with "a lot of very good ideas" in the pipeline. He reaffirmed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's development studio isn't planning to expand much, as "we want to remain very small and agile with a strong creative vision and a game that feels very unique and artsy." Love or hate Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, there can be no doubt that its commitment to its visual style made it stand out from the crowd. It's good that the studio is standing by that ethos going forward.

Elaborating a little further, Broche said that the developer wants "to make stories like an art house, making crazy projects because we want to make them, and that's the philosophy we want to stick by - especially now because we have so much attention and so much love from the players. We really don't want to betray that and just do stupid stuff."

It's far too early for Sandfall Interactive to speak on exactly what fans can expect from its next game. However, a couple of months ago, Broche did say that the developer sees Clair Obscur as a franchise, with even more stories to tell in that universe. Whether that is in the immediate plans of the studio remains to be seen.

Even with one eye on its next project, Sandfall Interactive isn't quite done with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 just yet. Earlier this week, the game hit the 5 million sales milestone, with the developer confirming new content coming to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in the future. The studio has yet to confirm a release window for this free update, although it did confirm that it will feature a new environment, as well as new boss battles for players to tackle.
