Summary
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed Oblivion Remastered in global sales on Steam.
- The indie title also has more concurrent players on Steam at the time of writing.
- Sandpoint Interactive faces a shortage of physical copies of Clair Obscur due to high demand.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has already passed The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered as a global bestseller on Steam. Both Clair Obscur and Oblivion Remastered have become huge hits recently, and while Oblivion was released first, it seems that the French RPG is already shadowing its success in some ways.
Oblivion Remastered was shadow dropped in late April after months of rumors pointing to the game’s existence. A few days later, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was released, instantly becoming a huge hit with players. Apart from being financially successful, Clair Obscur has become one of the highest-rated games of 2025, with the title currently boasting an average critic score of 92 on OpenCritic.

Now, new data has revealed that Clair Obscur may be starting to overshadow Oblivion’s success, as the game has surpassed Bethesda’s open-world RPG on Steam’s Global Top Sellers list. When counting concurrent players, Expedition 33 has just over 112,000 people in-game at the time of this report, while Oblivion Remastered sits at around 78,000. These are impressive numbers considering that Oblivion Remastered is a much more well-known title. However, this does not mean that Oblivion is decreasing in popularity so quickly, as the title is still a bit ahead when comparing the peaks of the last 24 hours, and its all-time peak player count of 216,784 is still much higher than Clair Obscur’s 112,422.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Overcomes Oblivion Remastered as Global Best Seller on Steam
It’s not only digitally that Clair Obscur is a huge hit, too. Sandpoint Interactive recently revealed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was facing a shortage of physical units due to high demand, indicating that the title is doing very well on console, as well.
When comparing numbers, it’s not entirely possible to know which game has sold more units. Both titles are available on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, and each developer is reporting sales in different ways. Bethesda has revealed that Oblivion Remastered reached over 4 million players, which includes subscription services, while Sandfall Interactive confirmed that Clair Obscur has sold over a million units, not including Game Pass.
In any case, it’s clear that late April was a great time for RPG gamers, as these two titles have been greatly successful. Hopefully, both will continue to be supported for a while to come, with developers potentially adding more features and improving the overall experience. Earlier this week, Clair Obscur already got its first update, which was mostly aimed at fixing some bugs that were present in the previous version of the popular RPG.
