The following contains spoilers for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Given how incredibly successful Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been, it would make sense for it to become a full-fledged franchise at this point that can potentially take its legacy far beyond the foreseeable future. It has introduced lore and a world that is so rich with detail, there are more than enough routes it could go with subsequent entries. However, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 itself could even benefit from some DLC before another installment is released, and developer Sandfall Interactive is fortunately not closed off to the idea of that eventually happening.

Should Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 go the route of getting DLC before another game is released, there are certainly a variety of different ways it could go about it. Hopefully, any DLC added to the game would be more substantial than an extra side quest or cosmetic items alone and would instead be a story expansion, as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's narrative is arguably one of its best qualities. If that turns out to be the direction it chooses to go in, there is one character that would be perfect for the spotlight in said DLC, as his history before the game's events is only mentioned and not fully explored — Verso.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Needs Its Own Verso DLC

Verso Traveled With Many Expeditions Before Expedition 33

Verso is initially one of the most mysterious characters introduced in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's story, and while there is a considerable amount of information disclosed about who he is as the story goes on, much of his backstory before the beginning of the story is only alluded to, despite how extensive it actually seems to be. During Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's story, Verso regularly reveals various things about his past, making his life story out to be one big adventure that players don't get to witness and instead simply get to hear about. This is where a Verso DLC for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 would shine, as it would potentially give players firsthand experience of his journey before the events of the main narrative.

The Final Fantasy series, which Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 takes heavy inspiration from, has released character-specific DLC episodes in recent entries.

At regular intervals during Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's story, Verso tells of many of the Expeditions he had traveled with before Expedition 33, and even says, "I've traveled with many Expeditions" at one point. If Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 were to receive a DLC revolving around Verso, it could use that as an opportunity to show what it was like to travel with those other Expeditions. Of course, none of them would necessarily end well, since Expedition 33 is the first one to achieve success. Nevertheless, it would be a great storytelling opportunity for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and a way to connect players with Verso's character even more.

Verso Has an Extensive History With Monoco and Esquie

On a much more specific level, a Verso DLC for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 could explore Verso's relationships with Monoco and Esquie. When both of these characters enter the scene during the main story, they hint at some fantastical adventures they went on with Verso, even though players never get to see those adventures play out. A Verso DLC could therefore explore the beginnings of his relationships with Monoco and Esquie, and how those bonds evolve during the time they spend together.

During Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's story, Verso regularly reveals various things about his past, making his life story out to be one big adventure that players don't get to witness and instead simply get to hear about.

If Sandfall Interactive is serious about expanding Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 through DLC, then a deep dive into Verso's past feels like a natural move. His character already feels shaped by journeys the player never got to take part in, and that alone makes him the ideal character for a story expansion. A DLC that explores his time with previous Expeditions, especially alongside characters like Monoco and Esquie, would fill in narrative gaps and even give more meaning to the main story.
