As Gustave and the rest of the expedition brave the dangers of The Continent in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, there are various ways to expand the strength of your group. Doing so is vital, as it enables you to take on many of the fierce enemies that cross your path throughout the game.
As a turn-based RPG, the focal point of empowering your party in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is, of course, leveling up. However, it's not exactly clear how high of a level you can reach. Here's a guide to provide some clarity on how exactly leveling works and what the maximum level is in the game.
How to Increase Relationship Levels in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
You can start to increase relationship levels later on in Clair Obscur's story. Here's how it works.
How to Level Up in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
While Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 features a unique variety of abilities, items, and stats that all ultimately work together to enhance your party, leveling up is still the bedrock of your progression in the game. There are a total of five different characters you can play as, and each character in your party has a base level (starting at Level 1) that is increased by obtaining XP from successful battle encounters, be they regular enemies or bosses.
Once you have a full entourage that includes your designated active and reserve party members, it's important to note that upon victory in an encounter, every character gains a certain amount of XP for your efforts. While the active members will get the lion's share of XP, those in reserve will still get partial credit as well. This ensures that everyone gets level progression, and you don't need to worry about certain characters falling too far behind.
If you want to make your level grind more efficient at any point, you can use the Rest feature at the Expedition Flag to respawn enemies in the area that you've recently defeated. This can be especially useful if you find yourself having a difficult time fighting your way through a certain area and want to knuckle down for more attribute boosts and upgrades to your weapons first.
As you level up each character, you'll be granted Skill Points and Attribute Points that you can use to customize them as you see fit. Just remember that you need to visit an Expedition Flag to use your acquired Skill Points, and should you want to respec any of them, you'll need a Recoat to do so. As your characters level up, you'll likely find yourself wanting to reconfigure their strategies and abilities at one point or another to handle the game's most formidable foes, so don't worry about any detrimental penalties for doing it.
Also, keep in mind that weapons have their own leveling system, which is capped at Level 33 (quite appropriate). Visit The Curator at the camp for all your weapon upgrading needs, and be sure to having plenty of Chroma Catalysts on hand.
What is Max Level in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
As many battles as you encounter throughout Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, there's thankfully plenty of room to grow in terms of leveling up. The maximum level cap for all characters in your party is Level 99, and this applies to both your general EXP level and your acquired attributes (e.g. - Vitality, Agility, Luck). In other words, once you reach the level cap, you cannot earn anymore attribute points beyond what you already have.
However, this doesn't stop you from still earning Lumina Points, which are essential for your character builds throughout the game.
