Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be available as an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate day-one title on April 24. The beautiful turn-based French RPG is among the most promising games coming to Xbox Game Pass in 2025, and the release date is excellent news for gamers who want to try Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for themselves soon.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was originally unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024. Created by the French developer Sandfall Interactive, the game’s first trailer showcased slick turn-based combat with real-time mechanics and gorgeous graphics inspired by the French Belle Epoque. In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s story, the members of Expedition 33 go on a quest to destroy the Paintress, so this mysterious entity can never paint death again.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Marks a Major First With Its Voice Cast
One actor’s debut in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 marks their first video game role, joining a cast that mirrors Baldur’s Gate 3's fan engagement.
Now, Microsoft revealed during the recent Xbox Developer Direct that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be available as a day one Xbox Game Pass title on April 24. During the show, the developers also revealed some interesting information about the upcoming RPG, highlighting that every character in the party will have unique abilities and that Final Fantasy and the Persona series are among the main inspirations of the title.
When Will Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Be Released on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate?
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be released on April 24, 2025.
Gamers who are not Game Pass subscribers, however, can purchase Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 for $50. According to previous reports from Sandfall Interactive, the pricing has two reasons. One of them is that Sandfall Interactive is not a huge AAA studio, and the other is that developers wanted to make the game as accessible as possible, so they decided to offer it with a discount when compared to most big-budget RPGs, which often cost $70. At the time, the developers also talked about the game’s length, explaining that it would take at least 30 hours to beat Clair Obscure: Expedition 30 and that the game will have plenty of optional content.
After the Xbox Developer Direct, it seems that Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have an excellent 2025, as several interesting day-one games will be added to the service soon. Obsidian’s Avowed will be out on February 18, Compulsion Games' South of Midnight will be available on April 8, and the eagerly awaited Doom: The Dark Ages will be released by id Software on May 15. Even without counting all third-party day-one releases such as Eternal Strands on January 28 or Atomfall on March 27, the list is already filled with likely excellent entries.
