Your goal in Stone Wave Cliffs is simple. You have to find Florrie, a rock that can help Esquie swim and allow you to cross a large body of water that stands between you and the rest of the continent. But just like any area in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you will need to overcome a deadly boss to complete your objective. Lampmaster is an unsettling foe, but once you know how the lamp mechanic works, you will be well on your way to defeating it.
How to Beat Lampmaster in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Near the end of Stone Wave Cliffs, you will come across a dark tunnel where lamps will gradually light up as you walk past them. At the end of this tunnel, you will trigger a cutscene and will then have to fight the Lampmaster. The first thing to know about the Lampmaster is that its attacks can inflict Exhausted. This debuff prevents gaining any AP. Fortunately, this debuff does expire at the end of a character's turn.
Lampmaster will extinguish all the lights around it and the lamps will send out projectiles at the party. These projectiles can be dodged or parried. You can also shoot the lamps during your turn to prevent this attack as well. In addition, the Lampmaster will do a jump attack which should be dodged. The Lampmaster is not resistant to fire damage, so stacking burn is a great way to keep consistent damage over time on it at all times.
Lampmaster Phase Two
Once the Lampmaster has fallen below 10% health, a cutscene will play and then the second phase of this fight will begin. You will fight the Lampmaster in a new area and the boss gains some new abilities.
During this second phase, the Lampmaster will do a combo attack with each arm. Dodge or parry to avoid taking a lot of damage. The boss will also charge up an attack when you see the message: "Lampmaster performs a strange ritual with its lamps". Pay attention to the order that the lamps shine in, as you will need to shoot them in that order. If you fail the lamp trial, the boss will unleash a nasty attack. Alternatively, if you hit all the lamps in the right order, you will cancel the attack.
Another attack you will need to watch out for is when the Lampmaster throws a ball of light at your party. Jump over this attack or your entire party will be silenced, which means you can't use skills. Thankfully, this debuff only lasts for one turn, just like with Exhaustion during the first phase. Finally, the last attack that the boss gains during this phase is a flying combo attack. Keep dodging/parrying attacks while shooting the lamps in the correct order during the ritual, and you will have no trouble taking this boss down.
