Set within the Clash Royale universe, Merge Tactics is an entirely different experience. While it is still an auto-battler like the core game modes in Clash Royale, the player's control over the troops and their behavior is far less in Merge Tactics than in other modes.

Not to say that it completely ditches the tactical aspect of Clash Royale, but a big part of winning or losing depends on each player's luck and what units they are offered in the shop. The key difference between the two rulers is the extra Elixir points that they offer. Royale King will grant the player 4 Elixir points whenever they lose a battle. On the other hand, Spirit Empress rewards the player with one extra Elixir point whenever they merge a troop.

Both of these situations could very well happen during a game of Merge Tactics, but the player could probably benefit from one more than the other. Upgrading a troop or merging it, as the game likes to call it, is something that can happen before every round.

On paper, a player will need to merge four times to get the same amount of Elixir with Spirit Empress that they would've received with Royale King for losing a round. Merging troops isn't something that can be estimated accurately, but based on experience, you get to merge 4 or 5 troops on average in a game of Merge Tactics. If you stay in the battle long enough, the number could rise to even 7 or 8 merges.

So, the total number of extra Elixirs that you would receive from Spirit Empress would be around 5 in a normal match and maybe 8 at the very best.

Moving over to the Royale King, the player earns a massive Elixir boost whenever they lose a round. Depending on the result of the battles, a player usually gets eliminated from the match after losing three times. In very rare cases, two losses could also remove the player from the match.

Now, if a player loses twice in a match, they will receive the same amount of Elixir points that they would have received with Spirit Empress after merging eight times. However, the key point is that losing twice in a match is more likely to happen than merging units eight times. That's why Royale King is a better option.

There is another reason to back this claim as well. After you lose a round, that's when you need Elixir points the most, because you want to strengthen your squad, either by adding new troops or merging the existing ones. So, when you suddenly get 4 Elixir points right after a loss, it can be a real game-changer.

On the other hand, with Spirit Empress, even if you lose a round, there is no guarantee of getting bonus points, which means you really won't be able to thoroughly improve your squad, and that could keep you on a losing streak.
