The fifth season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 brings yet another list of challenges for players to complete, and one such challenge among them is to get Clean Kills. These are something players have already been doing, but given how easy it is to gloss over that fact, it's easy to understand why some people don't know about it.
Much like Barebones Kills in MW3, Clean Kills are fairly easy to get. However, there are some ways to make this even easier. Here's a short guide covering what Clean Kills are as well as some tips on how to get them with as little effort as possible.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Scatter Mine (How to Unlock & Use It)
Scatter Mines are the latest addition to Modern Warfare 3’s tactical arsenal; here’s what they do and when they unlock.
What Are Clean Kills In MW3?
Simply put, a Clean Kill is scored when you land the final hit on an enemy without taking any damage from them. You don't necessarily need to kill them in one shot, but that would be the most ideal way to get a Clean Kill on regular playlists. A sniper rifle or some other hard-hitting weapon like the RPK with MW3's JAK Cataclysm kit are perfect for this, provided you're the one who lands the first shot.
As many seasoned players should know by now, the easiest way to complete kill-related challenges is to queue up for small maps in the MW3 Hardcore playlist. Every weapon in this game mode is significantly more lethal — everyone has the potential to die instantly, so if you're farming for Clean Kills, this is the place to go. Unless you play perfectly, expect to die a lot here. In exchange, you're more likely to get your challenges done much quicker than normal.
Modern Warfare 3: How To Unlock The JAK Purifier (Underbarrel Flamethrower)
Burn the competition to a crisp with the JAK Purifier, an underbarrel flamethrower for assault weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
If you'd rather not visit the Hardcore playlist, then we also recommend adopting a stealthy flanking playstyle in Ground War or War Mode. The chaos in these game modes is often enough to mask your approach, allowing you to get a few sneaky kills without getting hit.
Recommended Class Setup
- Assassin Vest
- Covert Sneakers
- UAV
- Portable Radar
- Suppressed weapons
Pairing a silenced weapon with the MW3 Assassin Vest guarantees that you'll be out of the enemy's minimap for the majority of the time. If you use a weapon with subsonic ammo, you'll also prevent skulls from appearing on enemy HUDs, maximizing your stealth potential.
What Are Clean Kills For?
Clean Kills are mainly here for the sake of completing Challenges. An example is in Week 1 of Modern Warfare 3 Season 5, where players are asked to score 5 Clean Kills with shotguns. Completing challenges like this rewards a large chunk of XP and, more importantly, an additional point of progress toward unlocking whatever weapon or conversion kit is being given as the weekly reward.
Weekly Challenges can be completed at any time during the season. If you miss the season altogether, you'll still be able to get the rewards via Armory Unlocks.
Apart from challenges, there's not much reason to aim for Clean Kills. You'll earn them naturally as you play, but there's very little incentive to do so. It's mostly there for flair and flavor, and unless it's needed to unlock camo or something similar, there's not much of a reason to try and go for them.
