The Best War Games speaks with Jeppe Carlsen, Jakob Schmid, and Erwin Kho about their mind-bending, worlds-within-worlds puzzle adventure game Cocoon.

Recently, iam8bit announced that the Collector's Edition of developer Geometric Interactive's puzzle game Cocoon, one of the best-rated indies from 2023, is coming soon for Switch and PS5. Although the game was originally published by Annapurna Interactive, its forthcoming edition will be published by iam8bit. In addition to that, a vinyl version of the game's soundtrack has also been revealed. It features a "Classic Black" vinyl containing music by Cocoon composer Jakob Schmid.

Cocoon Collector's Edition Specifications

  • 11x17-inch double-sided poster sporting original art
  • Five orb art cards
  • Exclusive cover art
  • Price: $74.99 USD
  • Release window: Q4 2024

The Collector's Edition of Cocoon contains a physical copy of the game and a bunch of merchandise. This includes art pieces, such as exclusive cover art, an 11x17-inch double-sided poster showcasing original art, and five orb art cards. Additionally, the set also comes with a combo of a 3-inch laser-etched crystal orb light and an activator pedestal. While the Collector's Edition is priced at $74.99 USD, the vinyl edition of the game's soundtrack has a price tag of $32.99 USD. Both the Collector's Edition and the vinyl record are scheduled to be up for pre-orders starting from May 23, 9 AM PT. According to iam8bit's website, similar to the Collector's Edition, the vinyl currently also has a targeted release window of Q4 2024.

Given the award-laden successful run of Cocoon, it seems only natural for the game to eventually spawn a collector's edition. The well-received approach to puzzles that Cocoon takes is an evolution from those featured in certain other popular indie puzzle games. That's because Cocoon is the latest game by director Jeppe Carlsen, who was also the designer behind the highly rated puzzle titles Limbo and Inside.

Moreover, the soundtrack of Cocoon, which has been fully constructed using synthetic sounds instead of recorded sounds, is also something that stands out. Schmid's music, which is nearly a constant presence throughout the game, adds a layer of immersion to Cocoon's surreal microscopic world. The puzzle-adventure title's music also gained recognition among the community as it helped the game bag multiple award nominations for audio design. Fans will soon be able to own this audio in physical form once the vinyl record becomes available later this year.
