Field Upgrades are essential for the endgame, allowing players a way to build up a charge through killing the undead and unleashing said charge in a powerful way that could save a teammate, or even themselves. - Summon a deadly growth of thorns in front of you. Enemies moving through it are slowed and take Toxic damage.
Toxic Growth is for players who want something more defensive, as it allows you to guard entry points and certain spawn areas by deploying growing vines adorned with sharp thorns that will block pathways, slow enemies, and inflict poison. If players want the best performance out of Toxic Growth, then use Urticant, as this will make the Toxic Growth wider, and enemies who manage to pass through will continue to be slowed, allowing you to have better control of the area. For the Minor Augment, use Ankle Shredder so that enemies are even slower when moving through, giving you the recovery and space to keep your ground.

Dark Flare is a rather unusual Field Upgrade, and it will allow players to send out a crackling beam of energy that deals Shadow damage and can penetrate through enemies. While it's not the most effective, Dark Pact makes it so that it can heal and revive other players hit by it, which can be useful in co-op runs. However, solo players might see better use out of Supernova, which allows it to travel on its own path so you don't have to stand around holding the Field Upgrade. For the Minor Augment, Heavy Gloom is a great choice because enemies hit by the beam will be slowed, thus making them less able to get to you before the beam has fulfilled its purpose.

Healing Aura is only really effective when playing with a squad, and as such, the Augments are best used for teamwork instead of individual healing aspects, as other Field Upgrades will be more useful. With that in mind, we recommend Necromancer, as this can revive dead allies. This becomes especially useful in Ashes of the Damned when the map is large and players might not have the resources to revive allies in time. For the Minor Augment, Stoic Presence is great for being a backup plan, as Special and Elite enemies will be stunned, and Normal enemies will be knocked down.

- Repair armor to full and force all enemies in the area to temporarily target you. Armor takes all damage during this time and kills repair your armor.
Frenzied Guard is one of the best Field Upgrades to use, especially if you're in trouble. One activation of Frenzied Guard will repair your armor to the maximum, and armor takes all damage while active, meaning your health is safe, and even kills will repair said armor. To make sure that you're staying alive, use Frenzy Fire as your Major Augment, as ammo is used from the stock of your weapon, meaning you won't have to reload as you fight off the hordes. The Minor Augment is more important, as armor durability is increased during Frenzied Guard, meaning you will practically be unkillable so long as you can keep your armor up and ready.

Energy Mine is an interesting Field Upgrade in which players can generate a pulse of pure energy that will detonate three times to create some fairly lackluster explosions. As such, players will want to increase the effectiveness of these explosions to satisfy their deadly craving and ensure that they're not wasting their Field Upgrade. For these reasons, we went for Smart Mine so that the Energy Mine can think for itself and use its more detonations when it finds multiple enemies in range to ensure maximum death. With the Minor Augment, we went for Frequency Boost so that the duration and duration of the Energy Mine could also be increased.

- Phase into the Dark Aether and become temporarily hidden from enemy detection.
Aether Shroud is one of the most important crutch Field Upgrades for its ability to shroud the players with invisibility, allowing them to be ignored by zombies as they recover health, revive allies, or generally, just catch a break. To enhance Aether Shroud with the best Augments, make sure to use Group Shroud if you're in co-op, as cloaking nearby players will allow you to group up and team together. Outside of co-op players, Burst Dash can be useful simply to gain distance from zombies by warping forward. As for the Minor Augment, we recommend Extra Charge, as this allows you to build up and save 2 charges of Aether Shroud, which will definitely come in handy when you're in trouble.
