What is Packet Burst in Black Ops 7? You might ask, and if you did, then you'd be happy (or annoyed) to know that Packet Burst occurs when data packets are attempting to be delivered in a cluster due to an issue within the network. While these data packets are usually stealthy and are transferred to keep consistent and smooth gameplay, they instead result in stuttering, lag, and rubberbanding that can dampen the experience, and this is very common in Black Ops 7 for some players. If you're experiencing Packet Loss thanks to the occasional (or frequent) Packet Burst pop-up when you're in-game, then take a look at some of our fixes that helped us.

How to Fix Packet Burst in Black Ops 7

Below, we've outlined some of the most essential fixes that you will want to try to mitigate Packet Burst from occurring and ruining your experience in-game:

Set On-Demand Texture Streaming to Minimal

One of the most common fixes involves setting On-Demand Texture Streaming to Minimal. This controversial feature allows surface textures to be downloaded from the Internet as you play the game, and it's usually on Optimized to download additional high-quality texture data. However, this setting can bring Packet Burst, so set it to Minimal to download only the essential texture data. You can also click Show More underneath On-Demand Texture Streaming to raise the Allocated Texture Cache Size, which will allow more textures to be stored, but you'll need to make sure you have the available cache size on your hard drive. Here's how to do this:

  • Enter in-game Settings
  • Head to Graphics
  • On-Demand Texture Streaming: Minimal
  • Click Show More underneath On-Demand Texture Streaming
  • Allocated Texture Cache Size: 64 (or the highest you can)

Lower VRAM and Activate VRS Settings

VRAM Scale Target allows you to set a percentage target of video memory (VRAM) that Black Ops 7 is allowed to use. While more VRAM may help the game's performance, hitching can occur if you are using too much, as it doesn't leave enough space for other applications. Alongside VRAM Scale Target is Variable Rate Shading (VRS), which is a technique that improves performance by controlling where additional quality is needed. These settings can be responsible for some Packet Burst, so here's how to fix them:

  • Enter the in-game Settings
  • Head to Graphics
  • Enter the Quality tab
  • VRAM Scale Target: 60-70 (No higher than 70, regardless of whether it's a high-end PC or not)
  • Variable Rate Shading: On

Disable Dismemberment & Gore Effects

Surprisingly, another aspect responsible for Packet Loss is the dismemberment and gore effects that occur if you shoot dead bodies. This setting can mess with Packet Burst, most likely due to the overload of information required when an enemy is trying to be displayed with immense gore, so try turning it off to see if it helps:

  • Enter the in-game Settings
  • Head to Account & Network
  • Venture to the Content Filters tab
  • Dismemberment & Gore Effects: Off

Restart Shaders Pre-Loading

Restart Shaders Pre-Loading

Another thing players can try is Restart Shaders Pre-Loading. This will delete the shaders cache and pre-load all shaders from the beginning, which won't take too long, but just means you'll have to re-open the game application and let the shaders load back in before playing. This might help with performance issues by clearing the cache and allowing it more space that it may have originally run out of, and here's how:

  • Head to the in-game Settings
  • Enter Graphics
  • Click Restart Shaders Pre-Loading
  • Restart your game

For the most part, Packet Burst is common for a lot of players, and it's not just your internet connection. However, if you're still experiencing Packet Burst after these fixes, it's advised that you restart your Internet Router, or better still, switch over to Wired Ethernet, which has a more direct connection to mitigate any connectivity issues.
