Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was officially announced to close out the Xbox Games Showcase, with a gripping Black Ops 7 teaser trailer. Serving as a direct sequel to Black Ops 2, Black Ops 7’s teaser packs in plenty of exciting reveals, along with a few subtle details that only the most eagle-eyed viewers may have caught. Here are 7 details you may have missed in the Black Ops 7 teaser trailer.

This article contains spoilers for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 campaign. Proceed with caution.

1 Potential Scorestreaks For Black Ops 7

D.A.W.G Scorestreak, Along With Several Other Drones, Can Be Seen

During the trailer, while David Mason is being shown The Guild’s "esteemed vision," viewers are given a glimpse of various pieces of technology, all resembling drones. While many may dismiss this as simple world-building for the campaign, it could very well be the first look at potential Scorestreaks in Black Ops 7’s multiplayer. One of the drones also makes an appearance during the gameplay segment at the end of the teaser, confirming that at least one will be usable in game.

It’s fairly common for Scorestreaks to be adapted from existing mechanics or missions in the campaign, and the drones showcased in the teaser may end up being usable in both modes. Whether that proves true will likely be revealed when more details about Black Ops 7 emerge in Summer 2025. With The Guild also serving as the weapon dealers for Pantheon in Black Ops 6, they'll likely also play a pivotal role in the campaign.

2 The Potential Reveal Of The Canon Ending For Black Ops 2

Raul Menedez Is Back & David Mason Is Still Serving In The Military

One of the biggest moments in the Black Ops 7 teaser trailer is the reveal of Raul Menendez, whom David Mason quite literally name-drops. While this is an obvious detail, the presence of Raul Menendez does muddy the water, with some taking it as confirmation that sparing his life in the Black Ops 2 campaign is the canon choice. However, Menendez being alive contradicts key dialogue and intel from Black Ops 3, which confirmed his death in Black Ops 2 as canon.

During the teaser, subtle dialogue leading up to the reveal also supports the idea that Menendez did die in Black Ops 2, with David Mason stating, “I watched you die.” This likely means Menendez’s return will be in spirit, or that Project Blackout was used to bring him back virtually, as outlined in Black Ops 4, allowing him to serve as the main antagonist.

With David Mason also appearing to still be in the military in the Black Ops 7 teaser, this may rule out the Black Ops 2 ending where he retires following his father's death. This could subtly hint that the canon ending is the one where Alex Mason survives, though only time will tell if this is actually true.

3 References To Past Black Ops Games

The Numbers Station & The Mission Time and Fate are Showcased

There are two notable references to past Black Ops games hidden throughout the teaser trailer, easter eggs that longtime fans of the series may have picked up on immediately. When David Mason enters a room just before coming face-to-face with Raul Menendez, a series of monitors flicker on, revealing an interrogation chair at the center. This is, in fact, the same room where Alex Mason was held during much of the original Black Ops campaign.

But that’s not all. Black Ops 2 also gets a subtle nod during the gameplay segment of the teaser. Later in the trailer, viewers can spot Menendez’s mansion from the mission Time and Fate, suggesting it may appear again in some form during the Black Ops 7 campaign—possibly within the mind of Raul Menendez or during a hallucination.

4 June 20th, 2025 - Cordis Die

The Date For The Next Reveal Has Been Teased

June 20th, 2025 in Black Ops 7

In the official teaser, just before the gameplay snippets for Black Ops 7 play out toward the end, eagle-eyed viewers may notice “LOG 06/20/25” hidden in the unveiling of the game’s title. In canon, June 20, 2025, holds major significance in Black Ops 2, as it's the date when a YouTube video is uploaded in the campaign’s storyline, featuring Raul Menendez announcing his own assassination and becoming a martyr for the Cordis Die revolutionary movement.

The inclusion of this date is an obvious nod to Black Ops 2, but placing it as a subtle easter egg within the trailer may also hint at a significant Black Ops 7 reveal happening on June 20, 2025. This would be a fitting move, especially considering that Black Ops 7 is a direct sequel to Black Ops 2, though only time will tell if this is actually the case.

5 The First Look At Avalon

Avalon Is Back & Will Serve As The Setting For The Co-Op Campaign

Avalon in Black Ops 7

Towards the end of the teaser trailer, viewers are shown a brief glimpse of gameplay across various modes, including a shot of three soldiers diving into a large, open region. This area is actually Avalon, the previously scrapped Warzone map. While this may spark excitement over a potential new large-scale Battle Royale map, Avalon was reportedly removed from its planned late 2025 release for Black Ops 7’s Warzone integration, in favor of bringing back Verdansk.

Instead, according to prominent leaker TheGhostOfHope on X, this footage of Avalon is tied to the campaign and appears to showcase the first look at co-op gameplay, already confirmed by Treyarch for Black Ops 7’s campaign. This suggests that players may explore Avalon in story missions, similar to how they did in Black Ops 6.

6 The Return Of Optical Camouflage / Active Camouflage

Optical Camouflage May Be Usable In The Campaign

Return Of Optical Camouflage in Black Ops 7

One of the more exciting details that viewers may have missed is the apparent return of Optical Camouflage, a feature first introduced in Black Ops 2. During the gameplay teasers toward the end of the trailer, one segment shows David Mason appearing semi-invisible before disabling his cloaking device to open fire.

This brief moment seemingly confirms that players will have the ability to turn invisible, at least during the campaign. A similar ability was also featured in Black Ops 3 as Spectre’s Specialist ability in multiplayer. Given Treyarch’s history with this mechanic, it’s not out of the question that semi-invisibility could make its way into Black Ops 7 multiplayer as well, though how exactly it would function is unknown.

7 First Look At Black Ops 7 Zombies Within The Dark Aether

Tranzit Seems To Be Back & Takes Players To The Dark Aether

First look at Black Ops 7 Zombies - Black Ops 7 Teaser Trailer

The final shot of the Black Ops 7 teaser trailer offers a glimpse at what’s to come in the next Zombies installment. While this brief snippet doesn’t reveal too much, it, alongside confirmation from the official Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 announcement blog post, strongly suggests that the upcoming Zombies maps will take place within the Dark Aether.

If viewers look closely during the Zombies segment, the sky gives off a distinct purple hue, reminiscent of the Dark Aether environments seen in Black Ops 6 Zombies maps like Liberty Falls and The Tomb. Players have also previously explored the Dark Aether in Black Ops: Cold War Zombies, but full maps set entirely within the Dark Aether could bring some exciting surprises this time around.

The glow of the Mystery Box can also be seen in the background for a brief moment, confirming its return. On top of that, a series of headlights suddenly light up before the trailer closes, which may confirm the rumors of a potential Tranzit remaster for Black Ops 7 Zombies.
