If you're looking to get all the mastery camos in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, then you're going to be grinding through multiple challenges for each weapon. While some require getting headshots, others will task you with getting a different specific type of kill. When it comes to snipers, you'll need to get longshot kills, but the game doesn't explain what that entails. While some fans of the series may be familiar with the specifics involved in getting one of these in a game, newcomers or lapsed players may need a refresher. In this guide, I'll explain how to get longshot kills in Black Ops 7.
All Weapons in COD Black Ops 7
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has a whole arsenal of futuristic weapons to make use of. Here are all the confirmed weapons arriving in Black Ops 7.
What Is a Longshot Kill in Black Ops 7?
As the name hints at, a longshot is a kill you get on an enemy from a long distance. The distance between you and an enemy that counts for a longshot kill varies by the weapon type, with distances with shorter range typically requiring less distance between you and an enemy when you kill them to get the longshot medal. However, typically, you need to be 50 meters or more away from an enemy when you kill them to get a longshot kill. If you're using an SMG, ranges of 30 meters will result in a longshot, while kills with assault rifles and battle rifles require 38 meters to qualify.
How to Get Longshot Kills Easily in Black Ops 7
There are a few different ways you can improve your chances of getting longshot kills in Black Ops 7: playing hardcore game modes, play objective-based modes like Hardpoint and Domination on large maps, and use attachments to improve your weapon's efficacy at range.
Playing hardcore game modes makes it easier to get longshot kills, as while damage drop off is still a thing in hardcore modes, the effects on non-sniper weapons isn't enough to significantly reduce the time to kill (TTK). This means it's easier to quickly pop out, land a few shots on an enemy from range, and get the longshot kill before they notice you're firing at them and get out of the way or get the kill on you first.
Next, make sure that you're playing objective-based modes like Hardpoint and Domination. This makes it easier to know where enemies are likely going to be coming from and heading to. If you can find a good spot on the map that has a vantage point on specific lanes or the objectives themselves, you can quickly rack up kills without having to hunt down other players. This is even easier if you're playing on big maps, where player movement towards objectives is more predictable thanks to clearer 'lanes' through the map.
Finally, make sure that you're making use of any attachments you've unlocked for your weapons that boost bullet velocity and accuracy. Not only will this reduce the TTK, but it'll also make it easier to just land shots on your target at range when using a weapon not typically suited to long-range combat.
A lot of the barrels you can customize weapons with allow you to improve bullet velocity, while grips can help with accuracy. Our list of best sniper loadouts also have some great recommendations.
