The last entry in the Modern Warfare reboot may not have left a good impression, but it offers enough to keep players returning for more. For instance, Modern Warfare 3 has a ton of weapons, many with the ability to switch between firing modes. Unfortunately, many players do not know how to switch firing modes in MW3.
Since many players do not know how to switch between rapid or single-fire mode, they are missing out on a lot. Different circumstances require a change of pace, which also translates to switching between firing modes. Keeping this in mind, this guide will cover everything there is to know about switching between rapid-fire and single-fire in MW3, along with other useful information.

How to Switch between Firing Modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
It is important to note that not all weapons have alternate firing modes, like marksman rifles, pistols, and sniper rifles. All other weapons in Modern Warfare 3 have alternate firing modes, and learning how to switch between them can be important, especially if you plan on completing specific challenges.
For instance, there is a challenge in week four of Season 5, requiring players to switch to single-fire mode on any weapon and get 25 operator kills. If you want to complete this challenge, you will need to get a weapon with rapid-fire enabled by default.
That being said, if you want to switch between firing modes in Call of Duty: MW3 (2023), here is what you need to do:
- Equip a weapon that has an alternate firing mode, and look at the lower right side of the screen.
- You will see two icons: one with three bullets and another with one bullet. Each icon has a keybind.
- Press the respective keybind to switch between firing modes. On a controller, press the left button on the D-Pad, but while playing on a keyboard on a PC, you will have to press B.
- As soon as you press the button, your weapon will switch firing modes.
Once you have changed the firing mode on your weapon, you will need to change it to whatever you want after your respawn. Remember, your weapon will always default to its original firing mode after you are eliminated. Now that you know how to switch between firing modes, make the most of this information by choosing the appropriate firing mode for different situations.
