Code Violet, a PlayStation 5 exclusive dinosaur horror game, has delayed its release date in order to avoid going head-to-head with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The highly anticipated title was originally going to launch on the very same day as Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, November 14, but Code Violet publisher TeamKill Media has now said it will be pushing back the game's release to December 12 as it would be "impossible" to compete with the shooter.
Inspired by the most iconic dinosaur game of all time, Dino Crisis, Code Violet will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive that aims to recreate the epic horror of the early 2000s. TeamKill Media describes Code Violet as a spiritual successor to Dino Crisis, the Capcom series that has remained dormant since the release of Dino Crisis 3 in 2003, which was met with controversy. Fans looking to get a new dinosaur horror fix won't want to miss Code Violet, as it takes players to the 25th century, where Earth has been left uninhabitable. Fans will play as Violet Sinclair, who has been torn from her time and thrust into the future by the Aion colony, which is attempting to save its people from sterility by abducting women from the past to be surrogates in a "dark yet desperate bid to save mankind."
Battlefield 6 Puts the 'Duty' in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7 have taken completely opposite approaches to marketing that leaves both titles in fascinating positions.
Code Violet Delays Release Date
Back in July, TeamKill Media excitedly announced that Code Violet would be coming to PS5 on November 14. Unfortunately, this release date was announced prior to Activision's reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's release date, which we now know to also be on November 14. As such, TeamKill Media has announced it will be delaying Code Violet by an entire month. In a new statement on Twitter (via Video Gamer), the publisher said it would be "impossible" to compete with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 from a marketing standpoint. As such, Code Violet will now launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on December 12, 2025.
While TeamKill Media acknowledges that this delay is going to be massively disappointing for those who are waiting to check out the new dinosaur horror title, there is some good news. The studio says it will be using the additional month to enhance the character models in the game, while also optimizing and polishing in order to deliver the most immersive and polished experience possible. Additionally, players will also receive two exclusive Christmas-themed outfits for Code Violet at launch.
When queried about whether the delay would mean a PC launch for Code Violet, TeamKill reiterated that it has no intention of bringing its game to any other platforms. Back in January, the team explained that it was not launching the title on PC as it does "not want anyone modding vulgar versions of the main character as well as other characters in the game." The studio explained that it holds its voice actresses and actors with high regard and "rejects" any form of attempt at destroying the artistic vision with sexual mods. The decision to skip PC caused a huge amount of controversy for TeamKill, with some stating that it could have a serious effect on the game's sales. Despite this, the studio appears to have remained firm on its stance.
As for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Activision will be releasing the highly anticipated instalment for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 14. The next Black Ops game will be a direct sequel to 2012's Black Ops 2, filled with remastered maps, semi-futuristic battles, and the return of some fan-favorite characters. Unfortunately, the game has already been surrounded in controversy, as the worldwide reveal trailer for Black Ops 7 has nearly 400,000 dislikes and is being bombarded with comments about Battlefield 6.
