Now, Circana’s game industry advisor Mat Piscatella has revealed just how massive College Football 25’s push was on console sales. According to Piscatella, projected spending on game hardware increased 10% in July 2024 when compared to the same month in the previous year. Regarding console content spending, the numbers were up by 29% when compared to 2023, and EA Sports College Football 25 rose as the best-selling game of the entire year in the US, surpassing other big hits such as Helldivers 2. Using this information, Piscatella deems that the huge increase in console spending is directly linked to the release of EA Esports College Football 25.

College Football 25's Release Was The Primary Driver for Console Hardware's Growth

It’s no secret that this was a much-needed push for current-gen console sales. Despite selling better than Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S, PS5 sales were recently down, for example, dipping 27% from April to June 2024. This indicates a decline in a market that has not yet surpassed the success of previous console generations. Other console-selling games such as Grand Theft Auto 6 will only be released in 2025, so College Football 25’s debut seems to be playing an important part in moving the market forward.

While College Football 25 continues to attract new players to consoles, EA has been quick to keep providing updates for the players. Earlier this week, College Football 25 received a new update, which fixed 25 bugs, including disappearing scoreboards and player freezes on Dynasty Mode.

It’s likely that College Football 25 still has a pretty bright future ahead of it as one of the best sports games to be released recently. The next National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) season is expected to run from August 24 to December 14, and the game will likely have a major update to match the beginning of the season.
