Announced on September 4, 2024, the World of Warcraft 20th Anniversary Event is set to be one of the biggest in-game celebrations. It's set to last for two months from late October to January 2025, and the WoW 20th Anniversary event will be much bigger than previous years' anniversary events thanks to a huge variety of revamped content and brand-new activities.
WoW: The War Within - Complete Guide To Delves
Delves are a unique new feature that is part of World of Warcraft: The War Within, and they offer a more casual endgame experience.
Though this is set to be the primary piece of new content in the mid-season 11.0.5 update, there's going to be plenty to do, including a newly revamped Raid in the form of Blackrock Depths which will be available up to Heroic Difficulty. This guide goes over everything you can do and everything you can earn in the WoW 20th Anniversary celebration, including overviews of the new currency, new quests, and the long-awaited return of one of World of Warcraft's most iconic armor tiers.
Updated October 22, 2024 by Erik Petrovich: For the WoW Anniversary 2024 Blizzard has wrapped up the 20th Anniversary Event into the 11.0.5 mid-season patch – and significantly expanded the Caverns of Time to house a significantly larger Anniversary event for years to come. The WoW 20th Anniversary Start Date is on October 22, 2024 and runs until January 6, 2025, during which time players can take part in a huge variety of activities to earn a new currency and earn a huge number of WoW Anniversary-exclusive rewards. This 20th WoW Anniversary guide provides an overview of everything you can do in the newly revamped Anniversary event to help players get started on their Bronze Celebration Tokens quick.
Updated Caverns of Time Anniversary Event
Until now, all WoW Anniversary events took place deep within the Caverns of Time in Tanaris (in southeastern Kalimdor), but it was a bit of a pain to make it all the way underground to the festivities. With the 20th Anniversary event, and in all Anniversary events from now on, the majority of event Vendors and activities will take place in a new festival area just outside the Caverns' entrance.
You will of course be able to find the WoW 20th Anniversary event vendors out here, as well as brand-new activities and quests to try out, including;
- The Fashion Frenzy, essentially a mini Trial of Style
- Mount Mania, a Trial of Style for mounts
- Storyteller Stage, where you join in on a story being told by Lorewalker Cho
- Guild Photo area
- Pet Disguise area, which lets you disguise as your currently equipped pet
- Warcraft Character Cosplay public toy, where you can dress up as some of WoW's most well-known characters
- Ice Skating area
- Lazy Balloon Ride
- Returning World Bosses like Lord Kazzak, Azuregos, the Sha of Anger, and more.
There is also a new Guest Relations activity that sees the player try to satisfy various guests and solve mysteries at the WoW Anniversary event area, as well as a brand-new Chromie scenario and questline that centers on the Opening of Ahn-Quiraj, called the Codex of Chromie.
WoW The War Within: What To Do First
There are a lot of new features and places to explore in WoW: The War Within, but you should prioritize these things first in TWW.
Earn Bronze Celebration Tokens In WoW Anniversary Events
Just about all new WoW 20th Anniversary rewards can be purchased with a new currency: Bronze Celebration Tokens. This new currency is used to purchase all of the WoW 20th Anniversary Celebration rewards, including the coveted Eternal Tier 2 sets. Bronce Celebration Tokens can be earned in a variety of ways during the event and can be traded between Warband characters.
- Completing Quests and activities (like Fashion Frenzy and Guest Relations) in the new Anniversary event hub outside of the Caverns of Time
- Defeating World Bosses that appear during the event, including Doomwalker, Azuregos, the Sha of Anger, Archavon, and more
- Codex of Chromie questline and Scenario
- Taking on the revamped Blackrock Depths Raid, which also rewards Timewarped Relic Coffer Keys for Blackrock Depths transmog rewards
- Engaging in the new Korrak's Revenge PvP event
The newly revamped WoW 20th Anniversary event will run longer than any previous Anniversary event in WoW's history, which gives you plenty of time to earn enough Bronze Celebration Tokens to get some of the best 20th Anniversary Event rewards. But if you want to get every reward, every cosmetic and collectible, you will have to complete practically every source of Bronze Celebration Tokens each week for the entire length of the WoW 20th Anniversary event.
A Modernized Blackrock Depths Raid
One of the most interesting new additions to the game with the 20th Anniversary Event is a limited-time, modernized version of the Blackrock Depths dungeon from Classic WoW. This beloved multi-part dungeon from the game's original release has been turned into a full-fledged Raid, complete with modernized mechanics and revamped bosses.
WoW: The War Within – Warbands System, Explained
In WoW TWW, Warbands are a new feature that let players share almost everything between their characters, with very few restrictions.
The new Blackrock Depths Raid has been tuned for groups from 10 to 15 members and brings back the dungeon's most iconic bosses. Among the boss list are The Seven, General Angerforge, Lord Roccor, and others leading to a final confrontation against Emperor Dagran Thaurissan – Moira Thaurissan's dead husband and Dagran Thaurissan II's father.
Not all of the total 13 bosses are required to complete the Raid, but defeating all of them nets you an Achievement.
This ode to World of Warcraft's most well-known dungeon from the vanilla game will be available in both LFR and Normal/Heroic difficulties.
Classic Timewalking & Timewalking System Updates
Timewalking has been a way to experience dungeons from older expansions and earn expansion-themed rewards for quite some time now, but until now, the original Classic WoW dungeons were not available for Timewalking weeks.
With the 20th Anniversary event, Classic Timewalking will finally be added to the game, re-introducing the original versions of the Deadmines, both wings of Dire Maul and Stratholme, and Zul'Farrak to the rotation. You will be able to earn some items that are brand-new for Timewalking, including pets, special mounts, and Classic transmog options that have not been available in the game for many years.
Once the event is over, Classic Timewalking will enter the regular Timewalking rotation, so don't worry if you don't unlock everything during the Anniversary event! If you don't have as much time to spare, focus on earning Anniversary-exclusive items and get back to Classic Timewalking when it re-enters the rotation later in the year.
Eternal Tier 2 Sets & Warcraft 3 Back Appearances
One of the most highly anticipated rewards from the WoW 20th Anniversary event is the return of arguably the most popular armor set in WoW history: the Tier 2 dungeon sets. Preficed by the "Eternal" tag, this revamped set includes some of the game's most iconic looks, like the particularly iconic Paladin Judgment armor, which have all been updated to match WoW's modern aesthetic and graphical fidelity.
WoW: The War Within – Warbands System, Explained
In WoW TWW, Warbands are a new feature that let players share almost everything between their characters, with very few restrictions.
There are a few classes that weren't in the game when the WoW Tier 2 set was introduced, like Death Knights, Demon Hunters, Monks, and Evokers. These classes have also received a set in the Tier 2 style, though, and for the most part players seem very satisfied with how these anachronistic sets look. You will be able to purchase full transmog Appearances for these sets for Bronze Celebration Tokens, and the price is reduced as you purchase more Eternal sets.
You will also be able to purchase another item of nostalgia: Warcraft 3-themed appearances for your Back slot. These are themed after the four main factions in Warcraft 3, including the Humans, Orcs, Night Elves, and Scourge, taking the form of each factions' Insignia from the game.
Pets, Mounts, & More WoW 20th Anniversary Celebration Unique Rewards
In addition to everything else you can do and collect during the WoW 20th Anniversary Celebration event, there are also quite a few new and returning pets and mounts that you can only get during this event.
The Blizzard Employee Service Reward-inspired Coldflame Tempest, for example, is a brand-new mount that you can only get during this event. Returning mounts from Anniversary events past include the Core Hound Chain, the Obsidian Worldbreaker unique Deathwing mount, and the Reins of the Frayfeather Hippogryph.
You can also get a slew of new and returning WoW Pets during the event like Lil'Kaz, Craggles, Lil'Doomy, the Molten Corgi, and more. All of these mount and pet rewards require Bronze Celebration Tokens to purchase: 10x Bronze for Pets, and 20x for the Worldbreaker and Core Hound.
The Coldflame Tempest can be earned by completing almost all achievements in the event, and the Reins of the Frayfeather Hippogryph costs 5000x Timewarped Badge to get from the Classic Timewalking vendor.
Korrak's Revenge PvP Event In Alterac Valley
The last major addition to WoW with the 20th Anniversary update will be the return of the Korrak's Revenge PvP event. This limited-time event has been in WoW in the past, and essentially is a revamp of the original Alterac Valley battleground in its classic form.
This PvP event is a great way to go back and experience one of the game's most iconic endgame activities from back in the day while also earning new rewards. The most notable Korrak's Revenge rewards are the two faction Mounts, the Frostwolf Snarler (Horde) and the Stormpike Battle Ram (Alliance), which can be earned by completing the quest titled "Korrak's Revenge".
