Nearly 2,000 people have signed a petition to "save" Concord, but it's mostly being done as a joke. Concord had a disastrous launch, reportedly selling over 25,000 units total and failing to crack even 700 concurrent players on Steam. Concord's already-low player count dwindled in the two weeks after its release, with Sony ultimately making the decision to pull the plug on the game.
Sony delisted the game and began issuing refunds to anyone that purchased Concord. Developer Firewalk Studios has suggested that it is exploring options to potentially bring Concord back in some fashion, but it remains to be seen if those efforts bear any fruit. In the meantime, nearly 2,000 people have signed a petition asking Sony to bring Concord back, though they're really doing it to mock the ill-fated game.
Some Concord Owners Are Having Trouble Getting Refunds
A small subset of Concord owners has reportedly encountered some difficulties in trying to get the refund that PlayStation promised.
The Change.org petition, which has 1,948 signatures at the time of this writing and new names added with nearly every fresh, asks Sony to release Concord again, insisting that "we were all busy that week." The petition is itself a reference to the infamous Morbius petition that asked Sony to re-release the movie for the same reason. Sony actually did end up bringing Morbius back to theaters, but it still failed to generate much interest at the box office.
Concord Petition Asks Sony to Re-Release the Game
Most petitions like this are ignored by video game companies, so no one should hold their breath that this actually results in Concord being released again. After all, Concord has been a gigantic commercial flop for Sony, and re-releasing it so soon after it pulled the plug would make zero financial sense. Not to mention that, like was the case with Morbius, most of the people signing the petition don't actually plan on buying the game anyway. That doesn't mean that there isn't hope that Concord could come back at some point down the road, though.
When it announced that Concord was shutting down, Firewalk did leave the door open for the hero-shooter to return at some point. Many have assumed that Concord could potentially be re-packaged as a free-to-play game, but even then, it seems like more drastic measures would need to be taken if the game stands any shot at succeeding. Changing its name and shaking up its character designs would also be necessary for most people to even give it a second look. If Concord does ever come back, it will have nothing to do with this petition, but fans are free to sign it anyway.
