  • Limited edition DualSense controller themed around Concord is available for pre-order at $84.99.
  • Concord, a 5v5 hero shooter game, is set to launch on August 23 with mixed anticipation from players.

Pre-orders for a new limited edition DualSense controller themed around the upcoming Sony live-service shooter Concord have recently gone live on the PlayStation Direct storefront. With less than one month to go until its launch on August 23, hype around Concord is rather lukewarm after its recent beta periods, but Sony is seemingly soldiering on with the game's marketing cycle regardless.

Concord is a competitive 5v5 first-person hero shooter and the debut title of Firewalk Studios, a PlayStation first-party team comprised of talent from popular franchises like Destiny and BioShock. The game was first announced back in 2021 as a multiplayer first-person shooter project, but hadn't been titled at the time. A more formal reveal for Concord happened by way of a somewhat vague CGI trailer at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, shortly after Sony acquired Firewalk Studios. The May 2024 State of Play finally revealed Concord as a 5v5 hero shooter, which disappointed many fans expecting something different.

PlayStation's new live-service hero shooter game Concord blows away expectations in its early access beta weekend.

The recently concluded Concord betas didn't generate much interest either, with less than 2,500 concurrent players trying out the shooter on Steam. Even though the enthusiasm around Concord isn't as high as Sony may have hoped, the company is still doing its best to promote the upcoming PvP title, as is evident with an all-new Concord themed DualSense controller. Sony is currently accepting pre-orders for the limited-edition PS5 controller on the PlayStation Direct website for a hefty $84.99, making it the most expensive iteration of the DualSense to date.

Concord Limited Edition PS5 Controller Release Date, Price, and Availability

  • August 23, 2024
  • $84.99 USD
  • Only available in the United States at the moment

The Concord Limited Edition controller seemingly uses the Midnight Black edition of the standard DualSense as a base and overlays the touchpad and grips with red and turquoise decals, effectively echoing Concord's neo-retro sci-fi theme. Smaller details, such as a spaceship on the left-hand grip, can also be noticed. The decals don't extend to the rear of the controller, however, with only a print of the Concord logo on the back. Though many would likely find the limited edition DualSense quite appealing to look at, the higher markup compared to other variants of the controller might turn some buyers away.

For now, the Concord Limited Edition DualSense is only available to pre-order in the United States, but it might be expanded to other regions soon. The controller is slated to be released alongside the game on August 23. With a lot of players already claiming Concord to be dead on arrival at launch, it remains to be seen if positive word-of-mouth could carry it forward to greater success down the line.
