Summary
- Concord is struggling with low player counts.
- The game has also been targeted by reviewer bombers and has a 2.2 user rating on Metacritic.
- The negative reviews accuse the game of being "leftist propaganda."
Concord, PlayStation's newly-released live-service FPS that has seriously struggled to build any kind of noteworthy audience, is being review bombed on Metacritic. Concord has been under fire ever since it was first announced a few months back. The game was criticized for being a hero shooter and for its bizarre character designs.
This bad first impression has resulted in people seemingly becoming completely uninterested in Concord. Concord debuted to abysmal numbers on Steam, peaking at 697 players during its debut weekend. Currently, there are about 152 players playing Concord on Steam. PlayStation 5 player numbers are not available, but it's a safe bet that the console version has done at least somewhat better than its PC counterpart. Concord's woes are continuing, with the game now being targeted by reviewer bombers hoping to drag its overall user rating on Metacritic down as low as possible.
Concord is being hit with 0/10 and 1/10 scores on Metacritic, dragging its user rating down to a mere 2.2 at the time of this writing. This makes Concord one of the lowest-rated games of all time on Metacritic in terms of user reviews. Now, there may be people out there who genuinely do not like Concord at all and feel that it genuinely deserves its extremely low scores, but it seems many are targeting the game not for its gameplay, but for alleged "leftist propaganda" and DEI (Diversty, Equality, and Inclusion). Some of these individuals giving Concord a super low score may have played the game, but it's likely that many of them haven't and are attacking the game for things like its inclusion of pronouns for its various characters.
Concord Has a 2.2 Rating on Metacritic
Take Concord's Metacritic user rating and compare it to its Steam rating. While there aren't a lot of people that have bothered to play Concord on Steam, those that have seem to like the game. Concord has a Mostly Positive rating on Steam, which is in stark contrast to its incredibly low user rating on Metacritic.
In my own Concord review, I praised the game for its core mechanics. Concord's wide range of abilities mixed with more classic-style arena shooter trappings make for a fun time, plus everything runs great and the graphics are phenomenal. However, I criticized Concord's character designs as being generally awful and unappealing. I also took issue with Concord's monetization strategy, which, along with its lackluster character designs, is likely the big reason why it has failed to find an audience.
Nearly all of Concord's competitors in the hero shooter space are free to play. Concord is a premium game that costs $40. The trade-off is that Concord isn't currently stuffed with microtransactions, but it seems like the game is going to have to go free-to-play if it wants to survive.
