Summary

  • Concord servers were officially taken offline today, September 6, just two weeks after the game's launch.
  • Refunds for the game are still being issued, and many believe that the title will someday return with a free-to-play model.
  • A Concord-inspired episode of Amazon's Secret Level anthology series is still scheduled to air.

PlayStation and Firewalk Studios' 5v5 hero shooter Concord is now officially dead, as the game's online servers were taken offline on September 6. Refunds for Concord are also being issued in the coming days and, coincidentally, the game's shutdown falls on the same day as the launch of PlayStation and Team Asobi's platformer Astro Bot for PlayStation 5.

Less than two weeks after the game's August 23 launch, the developers confirmed that Concord would be taken offline, citing that aspects of the game "did not land as we'd intended." The shutdown date was set for Friday, September 6, with digital sales of the game being immediately pulled from the PlayStation Store, Epic Games Store, and Steam marketplace on September 3. Leading up to this announcement, it was becoming clear that a major decision regarding Concord's future was necessary, as the game is estimated to have only sold 25,000 copies across PlayStation 5 and PC. Concord's exceptionally low Steam player count also led to increased wait times for matchmaking.

The official Twitter account for Concord has confirmed that the game's servers are now offline, rendering it unplayable for the foreseeable future. The post was kept brief, with the developers thanking players for joining them in the Concord galaxy. Due to the growing apathy toward the title, many gamers on Twitter have voiced contentment over the hero shooter being taken offline. However, there is also some concern about the Concord developers, as the industry's concerning trend regarding layoffs has a few users questioning the future of Firewalk Studios.

Concord Servers Are Now Offline as of September 6, 2024

Refunds for Concord are still being accepted and processed. In addition, PlayStation and Firewalk Studios are "exploring options" for the future of Concord, meaning that the game could potentially return at a later date as a free-to-play title. Fans wanting more after the game's shutdown may look forward to a new episode of Secret Level by Amazon set in Concord's universe. It's unclear when this Concord-themed episode will air, but it is reportedly still planned to be a part of the 15-episode series.

The shutdown of Concord has led to physical copies being scalped online, but it's not all bad news for the PlayStation community. The day of the game's shutdown was accompanied by the highly anticipated launch of Astro Bot on PlayStation 5, which is already gearing up to be one of PlayStation's most critically acclaimed titles of the year.
