- Monolith co-founder Jace Hall hinted at a possible Condemned 2: Bloodshot remaster in the future.
- “I will see what may be possible. Absolutely no promises. Please have ZERO expectations. This will take me some time," Hall said.
- The shocking closure of Monolith by Warner Bros. Caused the anticipated Wonder Woman game to be canceled in tandem.
On the heels of the shocking closure of Monolith Productions by Warner Bros., fans of the Condemned 2: Bloodshot gem have received a surprising ray of sunshine regarding a possible remaster in the future. Condemned 2: Bloodshot is a first-person action and survival horror game developed by Monolith and published by Sega in 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It’s the sequel to 2005’s Condemned: Criminal Origins, and fans of the series are desperate to see the bloodshed return on modern consoles.
At the end of February, Warner Bros. Shut down Monolith Productions, and shuttered Player First Games and WB San Diego in tandem. It also came as a shock to the DC community to learn the anticipated Wonder Woman game had been canceled, which was being helmed by Monolith. It sadly contributed to a devastating wave of layoffs plaguing the industry over the last few years, despite Monolith’s glowing portfolio featuring F.E.A.R., Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and its sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
New Horror Game is Like Condemned Meets Manhunt
A newly-announced horror game is taking direct inspiration from titles like Condemned: Criminal Origins and Manhunt.
Posted on Twitter, a Condemned fan tagged Monolith co-founder Jace Hall in a plea for both games to get a remake, saying, “Don’t kill off our favorite horror game for no reason.” Hall responded with a promise, saying, “I will see what may be possible. Absolutely no promises. Please have ZERO expectations. This will take me some time.” Players have been championing remasters of the Condemned games until they were blue in the face, and Hall’s statement is a hopeful, albeit surprising, tease for the future.
Condemned 2: Bloodshot Remaster Teased by Monolith Co-Founder
Fans have had Condemned 2: Bloodshot on their Xbox backwards compatibility wish list for years, and no doubt Monolith has heard cries for remasters plenty of times before. Other Condemned fans noted a 4K remaster would be enough to please the masses, instead of a lengthier remake. The fandom clearly appreciated Hall’s acknowledgment and were excited to hear its production could be a possibility. One fan even tagged Nightdive Studios in the comments section, as this developer has become well-known for obtaining rights to abandonware games and updating them for modern platforms.
Condemned: Criminal Origins is regarded as one of the best Xbox launch titles in video games history, following the story of FBI agent Ethan Thomas roaming the fictional city of Metro while investigating a bout of serial killings. The game bears a notable aesthetic similarity to gritty crime films The Silence of the Lambs by Jonathan Demme and David Fincher’s Seven, and it received significant praise for its disturbing environments, thick atmosphere, and its feat in sound design.
