Conscript received a new trailer highlighting the gameplay. It is set as an action survival horror title, with the aim of getting out of enemy trenches after finding the main character's brother during Battle of Verdun. It also combines psychological horror elements and puzzles throughout, causing players to have to slow down instead of just shooting their way through the different areas. A couple of different puzzles players will need to complete to advance the game are shown in the trailer. There are hidden bonus weapons to find, resource management, and unlockable costumes to add levels of replayability to the title.

Team17 Set to Bring Survival Horror Game Conscript to Market in 2024

While gameplay was the focus of the trailer, the information noted a 2024 release date for the full game. A demo is available for those interested in testing out mechanics, difficulty settings, and performance ahead of purchase. There are a number of highly rated indie horror titles for sale, but the demo could set Conscript apart enough for it to compete with these games.

The creepy atmosphere of the various environments, the twisted nature of the soldiers, and the constant pressure to find the protagonist's brother really keys in on the scary aspects of the game. No jump scares were shown, as Conscript relies on the terrifying reality of war, according to developer Jordan Mochi. For those interested in non-traditional frights or WW1-based titles, this could be one to keep an eye on.

Though it's set as an action horror game, the mental impact of seeing fallen friends and killing enemy soldiers while running on little sleep is clearly showcased in the trailer. With the setting and combined mechanics, Conscript could end up joining the ranks of the best WW1 games.
