If you haven’t welcomed your first pet into your virtual home, this guide is tailored for you. It outlines the essential steps you need to take to become a proud parent to a Dog, Cat, Rabbit, or even a Lizard. The good news is that adopting pets in Coral Island is a straightforward process and can be accomplished early in the game. Here’s all you need to know.

How to Adopt a Pet in Coral Island

After reaching Town Rank E, head to the Community Center and purchase a Pet House. Once you have placed a Pet House at your farm, you can go to the Animal Shelter—in the Community Center—and adopt your first pet.

Reach Town Rank E. Complete Temple Offerings, donate valuables to the museum, or heal the polluted parts of the island to get this rank.
Purchase a Pet Bed or House. The Community Center is in the middle of the map, slightly to the northeast of your farm. Enter the building and interact with the counter on the left to buy the house or bed.
Place the Pet House on Your Farm. Treat the house like any other furniture. Put it somewhere cozy and nice for your pet.
Go back to the Community Center. Once the Pet House is set, go back to the Animal Shelter, and from the counter, select “Adopt Pet.”
Wait until your pet arrives. It takes about a day for the Community Center to deliver your pet.

It doesn’t matter what type of Pet House you purchase. All of them are compatible with available animals.

How Many Pets Can You Adopt?

Unfortunately, you can adopt only one pet. Even more disappointing is that you cannot alter your choice of pet. Future updates may raise the limit or introduce an option to switch between various animals. However, until then, you must select your pet thoughtfully, as it will be your companion for the remainder of the game.

How Many Pets Are There?

Coral Island has 20 pets: nine Cats, eight Dogs, two Rabbits, and one Lizard. There is no prerequisite for adopting any of them at the Animal Shelter. However, you must stick with your initial choice. So, it’s best to take your time, play the game for a while, and opt to get your first—and only—pet once you’re sure.
