Core Keeper is a survival sandbox title developed by Pugstorm that encourages players to delve into caverns and mine either solo or with friends. While mining may be the main goal of Core Keeper, with players hoping to uncover the mystery of the ancient Core, players will also need to build, fight, craft, and farm in the hopes of continuing their mining endeavors.
Core Keeper: The Best Weapons, Ranked
There are a vast range of weapons to choose from in Core Keeper. Which one is the best?
With various ways to level up their character, Core Keeper allows players to choose from several different backgrounds at the beginning of the survival in the hopes of giving them a little boost at the start. While players are able to achieve the skills or craft the things given to them by these backgrounds, some players who have only just begun their adventure into Core Keeper may find these specific backgrounds to be the best, due to giving them a small advantage at the start of the game.
5 Warlock
Summon Minions To Fight For The Player
Starting Perks:
- +3 Summoning Skill
- +1 Tome Of The Dark
- +3 Food Rations
When deep under the surface, players are likely to encounter various enemies that they must defeat if they hope to continue mining. Core Keeper allows players to learn various magical abilities with backgrounds, like Warlock and even allows some players to do such experimental magic from the start.
Warlocks automatically have three levels of summoning skill, as well as the Tome of the Dark. This allows players the ability to summon various dark minions to protect them while they are uncovering the secrets of the Core. Out of all the available backgrounds, this is by far the best combat one for players to choose.
4 Chef
A Head Start On Cooking Better Food For Survival
Starting Perks:
- +3 Cooking Skill
- +1 Cooking Pot
- +8 Mushrooms
Although a player's main focus is mining in Core Keeper, players who only dig deeper without taking the time to pay attention to the survival mechanics of the game are likely to find themselves suffering rather quickly. Thankfully, backgrounds like Chef remind players there is much more to Core Keeper than a pickaxe, as they are instead provided with a cooking pot and some mushrooms to make various delicious meals with.
Best Food Recipes In Core Keepers, Ranked
Survival is made easier in Core Keeper's sandbox world if players focus on cooking the following food recipes.
While many players may naturally increase their cooking skills or eventually craft a cooking pot once they are done exploring, some who fear running out of food most of all are likely to favor starting with this background.
3 Gardener
Great For Players That Run Low On Rations
Starting Perks:
- +3 Gardening Skill
- +1 Copper Hoe
- +1 Watering Can
While the Chef background allows players to make better food for themselves, before this can be achieved, a player must first have the various crops to create such delicious meals. Thankfully, the gardener background is a brilliant option for any player who wishes to take on the role of a farmer and quickly increase the amount of food they have available for themselves when they finally decide to go mining.
Starting with a boosted gardening skill while also having both a copper hoe and a watering can mean players can quickly get to work growing various crops as long as they are able to find the seeds to plant. As mentioned, this also means players can quickly start multiplying their rations to explore for longer in this sandbox survival.
2 Miner
Be Ahead Of The Other Miners
Starting Perks:
- +3 Mining Skill
- +1 Copper Pickaxe
- +3 Food Rations
With Core Keeper encouraging players to go deep within the caverns digging, it's of no surprise to see that one of the selectable backgrounds allows the player to have a head start when it comes to mining. Besides giving players an extra boost to their mining skill, those who choose the Miner background also start the game with a Copper Pickaxe.
Best Pets In Core Keeper, Ranked
Pets are a great addition to Core Keeper, as they can do a lot to change the gameplay, and these are the best ones to try and get.
This means less time crafting the tools needed to go mining and instead more time completing the activity of digging deeper. Miners are then also given food rations to allow them to get back into their role as quickly as possible without any further preparation, making it a great background choice for any player who doesn't want to concentrate on anything else.
1 Explorer
A Small Lantern Can Go A Long Way
Starting Perks:
- +3 Running Skill
- +1 Small Lantern
- +3 Food Rations
Out of all the available backgrounds in Core Keeper, one of the best starts for any player comes from choosing the background of the Explorer. Players that choose the background start the game with a plus three in their running skill, which allows them to traverse the world of Core Keeper a lot quicker than the other backgrounds.
While players may be able to level this up quickly without the Explorer background, having this boost at the start is something that players will never wish to replace ever again. Besides increasing skills, players also start with a small lantern when they choose to be the explorer. Having a lantern at the start makes exploring within the caverns of Core Keeper much easier as the dark becomes less of an obstacle, not to mention the starting food rations also allow players to explore for longer.
