Core Keeper has a lot of mechanics that the player can explore, from dungeon crawling and boss fighting to base management and resource gathering. However, every adventurer and aspiring home designer needs food, and there are two sources of food: plants and animals.
In order to get food from animals, players need to explore the world and find wild cattle in their region, tame them, and use them to obtain specific food resources that they can use for their needs. Feeding cattle is an important step in this process, and it can be hard to understand if you're new to the game.

How To Feed Cattle In Core Keeper
There are two types of non-hostile animals in Core Keeper: cute pets that help you fight, and cute cattle that help you farm materials. Cattle require a guiding hand, needing to be fed to produce the aforementioned resources. There are three ways that the player can feed cattle:
- Hold the feed in your hand and stand next to the cattle.
- Drop the feed on the ground near the cattle.
- Add food to a Feeding Tray near the cattle.

How To Guide Cattle In Core Keeper
If you find cattle out in the wild, it's important to guide them back to your base — or capture them so you can easily give them food and get resources in return. Here's what you need to do to bring back an animal to your base:
- Use the basic crafting table to make the Livestock Workbench.
- Craft the Leash and Cattle Transport Box at the Livestock Workbench.
- Use the Leash to guide animals and the Cattle Transport Box to directly capture them and bring them back to base.
If you don't have a leash, you can keep feed in your hand to make the cattle follow you. This will inevitably take longer, but it is a good way to obtain animals at the start of the game.
- Make a structure to hold the cattle, and get a Feeding Tray with the feed of choice for your captured cattle.
- Interact with the cattle to obtain their resources after they have fed.
If two cattle of the same type stay in the same area, they will produce young cattle of the same type after a certain amount of feeding. The young cattle won't produce any resources until they have matured after feeding a few times.

Best Feed For Each Cattle In Core Keeper
There's no harm in keeping cattle of different types next to each other. However, make sure you add their different types of feed to the Feeding Tray so all of them can continue eating. There are five types of cattle found in the game, and they consume three types of feed.
