For 15 seasons, Jensen Ackles starred on one of the most gripping dramas about family, life, and death. Now the star is back in a new TV series that is approaching the top of the streaming charts.

Supernatural had an incredible run from 2005 to 2020 and told the compelling, entertaining, and sometimes sad story of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Ackles), two brothers who go on the road to stop paranormal beings from hurting people. Fans recently learned that a new comic book is being released about Sam and Dean's adventures, and it will take place between the first two seasons. From the memorable season 10 episode when Dean trashes a hotel room to the creepy villains, Supernatural remains one of the most enjoyable and most moving long-running shows. Fans won't want to miss the latest show Ackles is starring in.

Countdown Is #2 On The Amazon Prime Video Charts, And Supernatural Fans Will Love It

Detective Mark Meachum (Jensen Ackles) in Countdown

According to Flix Patrol, Countdown is number two on the Amazon Prime Video charts. It's the perfect replacement for Supernatural since it features Ackles in another compelling and weighty role. This time around, he plays Detective Mark Meachum, who was once an Army Ranger. After a Homeland Security agent is brutally killed, Meachum becomes part of a powerful task force to crack the case. With such an interesting premise, it's easy to imagine Countdown becoming a beloved show that lasts for several seasons.

Although the show hasn't been a hit with critics and has a surprisingly low Rotten Tomatoes rating of 38% despite the hype around it, Countdown has a more respectable 73% on the Popcornmeter. Although it's a crime/action drama, it shares a lot in common with Supernatural as both shows feature engaging characters trying to help others and do the right thing.

At the time of this writing, several young adult dramas and action shows are vying for the top spot on the Prime charts. The highly anticipated third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is number one, and the thriller We Were Liars is number three, although it was number one a little while ago. The Bosch spinoff Ballard is sitting at number four.

After playing Dean on Supernatural, Ackles reprised his role on the spin-off The Winchesters, which many consider to be lackluster. Then, he was cast in The Boys, the dark, funny, and sarcastic Prime superhero series from Supernatural creator Eric Kripke. Ackles will reprise his role of Soldier Boy in season 5, which will be the final season. His other stand-out roles include Beau Arlen on the crime drama Big Sky, Tom Hanniger in the cheesy but fun 200 horror remake My Bloody Valentine 3D, and Lana Lang's (Kristen Kreuk) boyfriend Jason Teague on Smallville.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ackles explained why he was interested in starring in Countdown. He and showrunner/creator Derek Haas had lunch, and Ackles was drawn to the premise. He said:

"There was action and salty characters — there was the ‘will they or won’t they’, are they going to make it? Are they going to save everyone and catch the bad guys?"

While Countdown hasn't been renewed for a season 2, fans are definitely hopeful that they'll see more of Detective Mark Meachum's story. In the meantime, fans can catch up on Countdown on Prime Video and get ready for the next episode, "10-33," which is streaming on August 6th, 2025. And, of course, rewatching

Supernatural is never a bad idea, either.
