Crimson Moon is a co-op action RPG, filled with high fantasy, brutal action, and soulslike vibes, set for release on PS5. Many new titles were announced at PlayStation's latest State of Play, with surprise reveals such as the God of War remakes or the new John Wick game overshadowing the smaller releases. Of these smaller games revealed, one of the most intriguing was Crimson Moon, a new co-op action RPG that could give Doom a run for its money in terms of violence and bloodshed. Along with all the other games announced during the State of Play, Crimson Moon is set for release on the PS5.

Crimson Moon Set For a Late 2026 Release

Crimson Moon joins the list of biggest games revealed at State of Play coming in 2026, teasing a late 2026 release on the PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. The game merges action RPG elements, with co-op features, and the brutality of Doom, to create a hybrid of genres in a relatively unexplored area of the gaming market. Crimson Moon proudly wears its soulslike influence on its sleeve, yet differs from these boss-focused games, instead utilizing a roguelike approach involving multiple runs in its gothic-inspired world. Crimson Moon will allow for solo playing while also incorporating co-op features, with both styles able to experience the adrenaline-filled action.

Many fans have noted a resemblance to Doom: The Dark Ages, particularly in the violent combat, leading them to hope that the level design is also of the same quality. The rougelike elements are also gripping player interest, with this specific blending of various genres and styles not really being seen in many mainstream games. As seen through co-op games dominating the Steam charts in 2025, multiplayer elements are huge aspects of modern games, making Crimson Moon's co-op features likely a huge selling point. With Crimson Moon merging all these genres and styles, the title may just reach a wide audience of solo and co-op players, ready to experience brutal combat and a fantasy narrative.

This most recent State of Play was certainly memorable, with various indie or smaller titles causing just as much excitement as the huge game announcements. Between Kena: Scars of Kosmora and the original Rayman game making a comeback, Crimson Moon served as a breath of fresh air that wasn't a sequel or remake. The gameplay and narrative are certainly inspired by various other titles, yet in this case, that works in the game's favor. It seems as though Crimson Moon could act as a culmination of the best traits of similar titles in the genre, hopefully not inheriting their mistakes as well. All of this combined leaves this upcoming title reminding many people of the soulslike games, Doom games, or even Darksiders games. If it turns out anything like those titles, Crimson Moon will definitely be a game to pick up.
