Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is a high-definition remaster of the classic Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 for the PSP. This prequel casts players as Zack Fair, a member of SOLDIER, meeting the cast of the main game and discovering conspiracies surrounding the Shinra Corporation.
After Final Fantasy 7 Remake made some major alterations to the original game's story, there was some wonder if the Reunion remaster would have similar changes, especially since players haven't seen Final Fantasy 7 Remake's full narrative yet. The groundwork laid by the original Crisis Core may no longer fit. Not helping was some mixed messaging from Square-Enix itself, on one hand claiming the game wouldn't have new story content and on the other claiming it would be "more than a remaster."
Now that the game is out, that doesn't seem to be the case. While there are clear visual improvements and gameplay refinements from the original Crisis Core, the game's story and structure have not radically changed and features the same number of chapters.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion's Chapter List
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion has 11 chapters, starting with a short prologue, "Chapter 0." Their titles are listed below:
- Chapter 0: Prologue
- Chapter 1: Embrace Your Dreams
- Chapter 2: Betrayal?
- Chapter 3: Monster
- Chapter 4: An Angel's Dream
- Chapter 5: Where are you?
- Chapter 6: Protect Your Honor
- Chapter 7: Departure
- Chapter 8: See You Soon
- Chapter 9: Escape the Nightmare
- Chapter 10: Heroes
For players unfamiliar with the original PSP release, this list might seem small, suggesting a shorter game. They shouldn't worry. A rushed playthrough of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion will still last players almost 20 hours, and a completionist run will more than double that.
As always, whether a game is worth the time and money will vary from player to player. That being said, considering how the next part of the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, is shaping up, it might be a good idea for Final Fantasy 7 fans to refamiliarize themselves with the story of Zack Fair.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
