Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion documents the life of SOLDIER First Class, Zack, on his journey to become a hero. In a world in which magic can be withdrawn from colorful stones known as Materia, most of Zack's journey is submerged in otherworldly elements.
Cloud could combine Materia temporarily in Final Fantasy 7, but Zack's approach is a bit more permanent. When he wishes to enhance the Materia he has collected, he can merge two Materia orbs to form one, usually more powerful Materia. Sadly, Materia Fusion isn't available at the beginning of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, but it can be unlocked quite quickly.
Unlocking Materia Fusion
Materia Fusion will be unlocked when the player reaches Chapter 3, where they will be informed by a Shinra Research on what the process entails. It's relatively straightforward once the fundamentals have been learned, but it can be tricky to figure out given how much information is being thrown around. Thankfully, the player can reread the instructions on Materia Fusion by checking Zack's mail and scrolling down to the Tutorials (Equipment) page.
What Is Materia Fusion?
As its name would imply, Materia Fusion is used to create a new Materia by combining two other Materia. Depending on the level of the Materia being fused, the resulting Materia can become either more powerful or something else entirely, but the player will have a chance to decide on what they want before committing to the fusion. There are countless Materia combinations available to try in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, but the possibilities become endless when the option to fuse items is made available.
How To Fuse Items
Zack won't be able to add items to his Materia Fusions until he meets Aerith in the Sector 5 Slums. There, he will gain access to several new missions, but he will need to complete the M7-2-1: Search and Destroy mission in order to upgrade how Materia Transfusion works for him.
Combining an item with two other Materia will result in a unique buff being placed on the resulting creation, and sometimes an item can even alter what Materia is created. It will take some work to unlock Item Fusion, but the player can obtain it at the beginning of Chapter 5 if they embark on the required missions.
If the player seeks to improve the passive effects of a Materia, they can also do so via Item Fusion. It depends on the items being fused, but most of them will grant some extremely useful buffs. The most reliable items Zack can use while fusing Materia can found be by scrolling over to the Fusion Items section of the Materia Fusion menu.
There, the player can learn the effects that certain items will have when they are fused. Combining items with Materia Fusions is essential for players if they hope to complete the post-game, mainly because of the baffling powers certain items can grant when they are combined with Materia.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
